Do you know anything about either variety, or where they are from?

The Austrailian mulberry is a long green /white fruit with a different taste than most mulberries, has more of a cantaloupe taste from what I have been told. They are susceptible to nematode from cuttings, hence the grafting.

The Australian tastes more lkke a honeydew melon, not a cantaloupe.  From what I have seen, they are difficult to get to root out from cuttings, survival rate from cuttings are poor.

We have a massive white at my parents house struck from a cutting from my uncles massive tree. Never had any trouble striking them, mum just chops a branch off puts it in a bucket of water for a couple of weeks and roots come out of them everywhere. In fruit at the moment and they are truly a prolific tree. Fruit turn completely white when ready and turn slightly dull when the sugars are at their maximum.birds absolutely love them!

Is the Australian a white shahtoot type or just a long white mulberry?
There are dozens of feral whites growing on the hill behind my place.

Can't say I've ever seen a long white anywhere that wasn't shahtoot. Grant's White is a good white cv, hard to get these days. I'm not at all familiar with this 'australian' type that tastes like melon. As far as I'm aware there is only one native mulberry and it is used for it's wood and not fruit traditionally.

I can vouch for this fruit if it's the same as the one I tasted with Rob.  It is a long pale green that bursts with flavor.  Very good fruit!!

Yes it was honeydew melon I was told, cantaloupe came out of my brain instead. L
