Mycorrhizae tend to favor the plants that feed them the most sugars.
Once you cut the green part of the weeds ,you stopped the photosynthesys and sugar production and now the fungi can focus more on another plants even if they dont like them as much as the plants you chooped.
Yellow leaves sugar apple maybe chlorotic ,could have benefited by the iron in the leaves from the mulch.
Spinach leaves are known to have iron and doesnt matter if yours is not normal spinach because any green leaves contain it and its a fast absorbtion organic ( chelated allready) iron.

I use mycorhizae supplement whenever i plant any seed or tree.

Upon further investigation, it looks that humic acid is readily available on amazon not sure if it's essentially the same thing? anyhow, I see a lot of people choose to do a foliar spray. How are you applying it SeaWalnut?
I mix it in the water wich i use to wet the plants( soil).
You can buy from online stores but its expensive stuff usually.
If its too expensive doesnt worth to buy it but if its cheap ,get it and for sure you will like it.
Pyroligneous acid its same as humic and fulvic acid, has both  and the expensive ones come from charcoal mineral deposits.

Wood vinegar costs 3 us$ a litre in thailand.
The one from coal mines is expensive.Wood vinnegar is especially cheap in Asia where people use it a lot.
In Europe ,because its rarely used ,its more expensive.

On Daves garden it said that Mimosa Strigillosa is hardy to zone 6 because it self seeds.
I dig all my land every year and then mow the weeds but im thinking to plant somme miscellanelous crops between the trees ,like this mimosa for bees ,Phacelia Tanacetifolia (this grows tall) and peanuts ( real peanuts to harvest, they also grow verry low but need loose soil).
At the entrance of my home ive planted an Albizzia Jullibrissin ,mimosa tree wich is verry similar looking to this groundcover and for sure il try the sunshine minosa also in the future.

Pineislander made me to google this plant and i wanted to buy it( seeds) but couldnt find any on ebay.
Its for the bees that i would like to plant it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Adding sulfur via soil plugging

what is an example fertilizer of a sulphur coated urea or nitrogen coated  in sulphur?

It will work but its not a good idea because bacteria needs surface area to grow on it.
More surface area= more place for bacteria to live on it.
Also as you see in the link previously posted, the sulpur is put in the hole with nitrogen on top of it.
But instead of mixing yourself sulpur with nitrogen you better buy nitrogen pellets coated in sulphur like here we have urea coated in sulphur .
Im not familiar with the brands and i always have in mind the ingredients not the name of the brand.
If you would ask at a phytopharmacy shop you should find it.
Its not verry common thogh or at least is not common where i live where almost nobody grows low ph fruits such as blueberryes on a comercial scale.
I ordered it from the internet, local shops.

How could you buy blue sand? : ;D Thats colored sand with paint.
Otther than the disgusting color for a sand, i think it should be harmless. Its used for aquariums, terrariums etc.

Telfairia ,the oysternut grows giant as a vine and makes somme soid of pumpkins with giant edible seeds( called oysternuts).
There is a member here that sells somme seeds of this rare plant.
The seeds themselves are too expensive to be sold as a food  and they are mainly sold for propagation except Africa.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Best poyting mix for macadamia/ proteaceae?
« on: November 05, 2019, 09:34:06 AM »
Something you dont see every day .
From top to bottom:
1- Black clay soil ( from 20 cms deep because on the top it has too much phospate. With depth phospate is lower.
2-Coarse sand, construction grade and the white patch is perlite.
3- compost with 20% biochar and 300 grams of red iron oxide. To the right ,the brown part is the compost allready mixed with the iron oxide.
The purpose of the red iron oxide ( rust) is to lower the phosphates a little and because i got tired to put iron nails into the soil  :D
Note:Do not copy my mix with iron oxide because im doing an experiment.

The soil was then watered with rain water plus 2 mg/ litter of pyrolygneous acid( humic acid). The ph of the water was 4,5 .

The water that came out of the pots was red.

Because the water was too red colored,i couldnt make tests so i tested the compost only.Nitrogen and phosphorus levels.

This is a forum about tropical fruit and most of us know the difference between the sun at 45 degrees and 25 degrees latitude. Those who know are laughing.
Im laughing too having this in mind all the time i comented on this subject. https://youtu.be/G_YM9cCtwz4

I bought expensive seeds from Ebay that didnt germinated except 2 Feijoa ,so i stead i buyed the plants in pots.
These guavas grow verry fast ,are easy care and reliable fruiting.
Same with sugar apples seeds and cherimoya,i ordered like 6 batches of cherimoya seeds from different sellers until i got one single seed to germinate.
Its better to buy young plants if you can and order them online from your closest nursery.
If you want somme rare plants and you can only buy them from Ebay, make sure the seeds are fresh, talk with the seller first.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Best potting mix for macadamia/ proteaceae?
« on: November 03, 2019, 08:13:47 PM »
What would be a good soil mix for macadamia?
I dont have macadamia but somme related trees,Gevuina and i need to transplant them to bigger pots.
I have perlite,yellow clay,black clay,sandy soil,biochar,simple charcoal , manure and coarse sand.

These proteaceae dont like much phosphates in the soil but Gevuinas are more tolerant of normal levels of phosphates.
Lowet phosphates i can achieve by maintaining a lower ph( acidic) but im also thinking (this is my own idea)to mix somme red iron oxide powder into the soil wich will bind and make the phosphates non available.

Thank you both for the reply! I already have a pineapple, I just have an anchor for trees. I have a truly tiny carvendish, and several citrus. I just don't like how pineapples fruit once and done. Is there any type of guava that tastes better than others that would do well? Also I haven't seen sugar apples before. I'll have to check it out thank you!
Bsst tasting guava is Ugni Molinae and its not really a guava but a relative.Has verry small fruit.
Another one similar to Ugni is Austromyrtus but i dont have that iet.
Feijoa is also a guava relative,i grow them in pots.
Guavas are generally easy care and easy fruiting in pots.

Not more intense but much longer time, more photons hit the soil here and its direct enough like there is no shadow mid day.
Its all the light we lost during the winter,we get it in plus during the summer, that simple it is .

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Atemoya breeding the quest for the best
« on: November 03, 2019, 05:56:11 PM »
People ,,prefer,, atemoya because they cant cultivate Cherimoya wich is a superior fruit but subtropical not tropical.
In those tropical countryes cherimoya doesnt fruit because it doesnt get enough chilling hours so they try to breed atemoyas to have a substitute of Cherimoya.

741
All guavas grow well and flower in pots easy and are easy care.
Ugni fruit ,a relative of the guavas and strawberry guava ive seen them fruiting on half a gallon pots/2 liter pots.
Sugar apples grow as small trees in pots and fruit verry fast from seed in @ 2 years, citrus trees and manny otther.
A lot of annonaceae fruit well in pots but the sugar apple fruits the fastest .The video is all you need to know about sugar apples https://youtu.be/Lmf4Jgm9ETo

Thats Irwin mango but in Florida doesnt become that red because it gets less sun during the growing season than in the more northern Japan.
Irvin is less red colored in Florida ,more red in Australia( because Australia gets more sun than Florida) and brightest red in Japan where it gets more light than in Australia.
On 45 N you get direct sun light in the middle of the summer day just like on the Equator just that it lasts consideeavly longer and sunburns are worst here thats why people go closest to the equator to sunbath in summer ,because the sun its lighter and lighter.
Probably if you never get that much northern ,you would have a shock to see how strong the sun is during the summer.
2 days of sun here in the summer=3 days of sun on the Equator.

And again,im talking only about the summer not anual because most fruits rippen during the summer.
Its obvious that we get here 8 hours of night during summer and 8 hours of daylight during the winter.
This means that on 45 N ,during the summer we get a lot more light than any tropical place .

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Loquat from seed

I moved mine inside the greenhouse for the winter.

Hi Seawalnut.  What are the most tropical plants you're growing in Romania? That is really zone pushing at 45 degrees north!
Do you do a mix of outdoor growing and greenhouse growing?
Tropicals im keeping them in the greenhouse, guavas, somme unknown specie of inga and achacha from Costa Rica, gumuchil, sugar apples, cherimoya.
Outdoor i grow kaki, paw paws ( asimina triloba) ,american persimmons, red love apples pink, fleshed pears, wild almonds, somme walnuts that make giant nuts, cherryes ,plums, apricots, peaches ,figs ,kiwi-small cold hardy ones,paulownia-for wood, fejoa, ugni, strawberry guava and manny otthers.
Right now im still building the greenhouse heating system, its the first winter so i have small plants at the moment.

The principal components of pyroligneous acid are acetic acid, acetone and methanol.
Wikipedia
Wikipedia is sometimes not a good place to get references  ;D.
Its humic acid and fulvic acid and its also called wood vinnegar.

Only right on the equator is daylength pretty stable at 12 hours all year and the equatorial region is just a small portion of the tropics. Seasons are fairly pronounced and daylength varies quite a bit even at 10 latitude. The sun is much milder in the temperate zone even if daylength is longer in summer. Mangoes are not really grown in green houses in Australia or many places really.
Only on the Equator is the daylight 12 hours every day of the year and further you go from the equator it gets slightly longer in the summer and shorter in the winter until you get to the North pole where during the summer peak there is sun shining 24 hours and theres no night.
Sun shines a lot more during the sumer where i am on 45 North paralel, you would get a lot more severe sunburns than in the tropics here  and because there is a lot of light during the summer, thats why the japanese mangoes are  more red than any otther mangoes ,because they are blasted by more light.
And they grow these mangoes in the greenhouse because in Japan on such northern latitude its too cold for mango to survive outdoor.

746
Another important aspect its how long the sun shines during the day.
On tropics its 12 hours daylight all year while where i live on 45N i get up to 16 hours of light during the summer.
Sun in my area can fry tropical plants. In winter on the otther hand we get up to 16 hours of night  but usually fruits rippen during the summer.
Because of more hours during the summer, australian and japanese greenhouse mangos are more reddish than tropical ones.

Hottentot fig is a fruit plant that prevents fire from spreading because of its high water content.
The fruit is edible, resembles a fig and ive read thats used in California as a barrier against wild fires but on slopes it can colapse similar to a land fall because its heavy from the high water content.
Fire protection and fruit farming mixed together.

Sorry guys I opt for copper and captan
 Easy to use and effective.
You probably caught the old days when DDT was allowed and got stuck with that concept.
Now a days people want to use more organic substances, working with nature not working against the nature.

There are somme real cheap emitters ,360 degree but that you can also adjust them so they dont spray water on the tree trunk.
I would pick those and as far as the pipes go ,i would choose polypropilene pipes heat glued because they have warranty for like 180 years ,they are the best and cheap.
In the orchard i would bury the pipes deep enough so that tilling would not cut them.
Digging with a special chainsaw with a big blade ,diy from motorcycle chain ,sprockets and big teeth @1 inch wide.
