Hello, does anyone coltivate Gevuina Avellana? I read that the fruits have similar taste of Macadamia but the tree is more cold hardier than Macadamia. The fruits when are ripe becomes black. The tree is native to Chile and is cold hardy about -12 C .  The flowers are bisexual and they are flowering in december. The tree can grow up to 20m.

In Italy several nurseries sell the maqui berry plants. But the plant  is dioic and needs male and female plants to set fruits.

The variety Vaniglia have a strong aromatic flavour and in my opinion is better then fuyu, and  other commercial varieties. The variety cioccolatino set a good amount of fruits but small sized with seeds and  it is not self fertile.

Solko, I dont have any experience with this cdultivar of E.Uniflora but I heard about 2-3 people who coltivate them (Froum Mexico to Uruguay) and they told me about his cold hardiness. In internet there was a small amount of information unfortunally :( . I have only experience with Guabiyu , I planted it this spring and the tree is growing fast, and today we have a -8 C and the plant  have small damages (only a few leaves that was young are damaged)

I grow it many years, the tree is autofertil , they don t have seeds ,if  you have near by other persimmons that  have male flowers then the fruits can have a small amount of seeds. The colour of ripe fruit is orange-brown and have a very good flavour. The fruits are medium-sized. My tree give me this season about 60-70kg of fruits.

How is the fruit, tasty? I don t know antyhing of eugenua uruguayensis. If  the name is Uruguayensis I think it can be cold hardy

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: The best tasting orange for coolder climate?
« on: January 04, 2017, 12:26:42 PM »
Yes, but I m  afraid of losting plants if I plant "common" oranges . With varieties like Morton, US 119  I will be safe , the place where can i put the plants are in sunny position with some protection of house and on the left side of palms.
