Tropical Fruit Discussion / Didn't expect this
« on: March 14, 2016, 11:24:00 PM »
I was pruning and collecting scions from my "Smooth" Surinam today as well as picking weeds, and when I pulled up a mighty soil hogger dozens of sprouting seeds from last season were revealed.

I have pictures... only collected about 10 seeds, all had sprouted at least minimal roots and were beginning to stem.

Do they usually hold this way? At the end of last season I noticed a bunch of dried seeds under the tree but I did not imagine they would ever sprout, that being said the soil around the tree is very fertile and has a lot of (good) fungi action.

28
I got some from Luc about a year ago. They are doing  great, all were viable and sprouted relatively quickly.

29
Think I'm game to buy some.

How much for 15 seeds inc. shipping to california?

30
The flavor is kind of sour and lemonade-ish, correct?

Sour in a good way...

31
UPDATE:

Says $21/SCION.

That was a mistake

SHOULD BE $21/2 or more scions of considerable size and/or length.

32
Seed to flesh ratio?

33
Any Xanthopyllum Amoenum still available?

Thanks!

not sure where to look, but do you or anyone else have a description of the flavor and also pics of ripe fruit?
I can't find any info on this. Is there a thread somewhere I missed? Is it a good taste or just round. I have Zill Dark and that seems to be the best one I have tasted.

Hello All!

I have been gone for quite a while as I have been swept away by the other love of my life (surfing), as the waves have been good lately (primarily due to El Niño.) All of my trees are in the ground and well, the winter hasn't been too harsh except for some defoliation on an in ground jackfruit.

Unfortunately, some of you who were interested in buying seeds and scions weren't able to buy, because I was busy personally, or busy with other orders.

Fortunately, the Round Surinam's are coming back into season, the tree has already flowered and will soon be beginning to produce some plump green fruits.

In the time since my last post, the tree has also grown a good deal so scions are going to be much more available, if you are interested.

SCIONS ARE AVAILABLE

CHARGING $21/SCION SHIPPING INCLUDED. US ONLY.

SEEDS CAN BE PRE-ORDERED, SEND A PM AND I WILL
PUT YOU ON A PRE ORDER LIST.

Maryoto, can you elaborate some on the flavor of A. sarawakensis?

43
We should call it "Jack's Smooth"

Sounds like a plan Rob!

Hey Guys!

Just took some pic's, here they are :

Fruit next to quarter

Close up of a few fruits

The tree

While the tree is fruiting the leaves have a reddish hue to them, and it makes the tree look very pretty.

It is kind of funny how the fruits start off as being ribbed but as they come closer to ripening the ribs smooth out.

45
Scions now available! Only 2-3 max. per person. Send a PM to lemme know.

Still a bunch of seeds I am hoping to sell before the season is over.

Have pic of the fruit next to a quarter?

Hey Xue, I can get post a few pictures on here after I get out of school. (free period right now).

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: New Greenhouse

Very nice! Hopefully it will be put to good use with lots of Annona's, Eugenia's, and lets not forget Artocarpus!

Lotusland is awesome! Really a cool place.

(Goleta) "Beard's Tropics" a.k.a Norman Beard's awesome farm, HUGE selection of tropical fruit tree's in ground and in greenhouse, including a fruiting in-ground rollinia, tons of full size cherimoya tree's, and tons of cultivars of finger limes, peaches, nectarines, and more.

(Fullerton) Fullerton arboretum is a radical place with a very large selection of tree's, including ton's of garcinia's, a huge ice cream bean tree with a 50 foot canopy, finger lime's, in ground jackfruit trees, and TON'S more.

(Goleta) Terra Sol is a cool local nursery that also has an awesome tropical fruit collection, especially in the private section in the back, they have Mangosteen's, Jaboticaba's, and a bunch of Inga species in the back. (Find Clare and tell her that you know me, and she will probably let you in the back.)

(San Diego) Ong's nursery is a tropical fruit lover's paradise, hundreds, if not thousands of species crammed into a little slice of paradise. Quite pricey though! THey have tons of fruiting specimens of Starfruit, countless Eugenia's, Syzygium's, ANnona's, and Artocarpus. Even if you don't buy anything it is still really awesome. The people who own the place are very kind too and will let you try ripened fruit off of trees.

etc…

There are a lot more, in my experience the above are some of my favorites though.

Everyone who inquired before today, I sent out the packages today, (Barath, Pramant, Jack, Don, Jeff).

Lots more still available, sending out another round on Monday. I am sending a FEW scions this week and will send more as the tree stops fruiting.

I will send a message to those who are already on the scion pre-order list.
