diospyros montana edible?

Tradewinds fruits list this species as edible, but after some googling I'm not so sure. The references either state inedible until fully ripe, inedible or toxic. Anyone have any other information on this?

Some days ago I received Diospyros montana seeds (with others) from Roy-Ind.
He wrote this fruits rather ornamental. You can ask him more detailed.
But it can be confused with close Diospyros melanoxylon and Diospyros malabarica varieties.

Roy just inform me D. montana unripen fruit is toxic, well ripen - edible.

there may-be 2 types D Montana and D Montana var cordifolia. the latter is poisonous, ie monkey will not touch it.
