Wow- awesome!
I'm local if you're in Sebastian, FL; do you do fruit/plant sales at the farm?

Hipasfolk - I've sent you a couple msgs :). I have your pack in front of me with what you requested... all I need is your address and full name for a postage estimate - I scale at the PO to make sure it's actual.  Then payment to me via PayPal after I send your total.  You were the 3rd response to the listing.
Thank you!

Shoot me an email or msg via the TFF.

I’ve rooted cinnamon before.  It was super slow, but I had high success like 5 out of 7 or somewhere around there.

Are the cambuca a little faster growth from seed than Jaboticaba?  My Jaboticaba seedlings are sooo slow I can’t bear to plant any more seeds.

to fruit?

depends on which jabo we're talking about.  3 years if you play it right for escalarte.  I think they say olho de boi is like 15?  there is a range.  Cambuca here in Hawaii is maybe 6-7.

Campomanesias definitely on the faster side.  friend got his seeds to fruit in 3-4 years.

Nah, not even concerned how long to fruit yet, but how fast do you get vegetative growth?  I was hoping maybe cambuca grows faster because I’m tired of watching all these tiny jabo for years.  Maybe I need to get on my fertilizer game or something.

Awesome!  I saw those pics.  Do you still have seeds for the larger fruited one as well?

I’d love to find one that is less vigorous but still fruits well, lol, my possum purple covered 40x15’ area in about a year.

Maybe I just need to grow them on something more easily contained like a proper structure is all though.

Awesome!  What size are these?  Wasn’t really sure from the listings.

I need more information on the germination rate of this seed.

It’s plants/rooted cuttings.

Any word on the PIN varieties?  I’ve seen some feedback now on orange crush, what about Tangerine?

Are these ones commonly in landscaping equivalent to one grown for the fruit?  Does anyone know anyone who grows them for the fruit?  I know there are different species, but just asking because I've tried some of the fruit and couldn't understand how anyone called it edible.  So fibrous and not really even worth messing with the ones I tried which seemed ripe, and I tried varying stages at Fruit and Spice before as well.  I'll admit ignorance, but these are grown a fair bit in S FL.

Cool!  Just sent pm about marang and blackberry jam.

I don't think any of my initial PMs go thru.  Are you out of marang?

That is a project I have been doing off and on for about 6 months. I totally agree especially with the amount of species that have been available over the last few months. I have the next three days off work and will get back to this and try to create something. I appreciate the input from everyone and stay tuned! If anyone needs some info or photos ASAP reach out on our support page and I will send them to you directly until I can get this worked out. Thank you and have a great weekend! (New drop coming soon)

That is awesome!
Was thinking the same- there is literally no easily accessible info out there on a fair few of those species, if not most of them.
Cheers!

Has anyone found the restinga to be any easier to get going from seed?  I’ve had good success with some 3gal trees potted out so far, does much better here than other varieties I have.

Sending PM on nelita seeds. Let me know if it doesn’t go thru.

not yet?

Gotcha, didn’t go thru then.  Was just looking for maybe 10 of those if you have available still can you send me a message?  Thanks!

Would you mind posting a quick list of what's for sale?

Would be interested as well.

I had gotten a nice one from HawaiianTropicalPlants a couple years ago, https://www.store.hawaiiantropicalplants.com/Garcinia-gummi-gutta-Gamboge-4x4x10inch-tree-pot-1638.htm

it was fairly large size and healthy.   Seems they still carry them but it says "back ordered", you could try emailing the seller he should be responsive.

Can I ask what the attraction of gamboge is, though?  I ordered it when I was initially collecting all the garcinias I could find and didn't read up much on it, seems like it isn't really for fresh eating, maybe cooking/medicine
Sorry for the mix up was refering to gamboge garcinia xanthochymus.
It's going to be used as rootstock. The fruit doesn't taste too good. Way too sour. I hear it's used in curries and stuff not for eating out of hand.
I actually enjoy Xanthochymus out of hand :o

I agree- it’s super sour, but pretty tasty.  Eaten ripe it’s kinda like the flavor of a super sour green mango to me, but the texture of a ripe mango.

It looks like it's no longer online. FigBid is still active. Both sites were owned and operated by the same person/people. BidNGrow was an offshoot of FigBid. I guess it's just been merged back into FigBid.

I liked BidNGrow, in theory. But, I did a few listings on the site with no sales and generally found other sellers' inventory fairly limited. I wish it had succeeded as an alternative to eBay.

Gotcha.

Yeah, I think it just didn’t get the marketing and usage that it needed to pick up off the ground.  Bummer.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Ice Cream Mango
« on: November 17, 2022, 01:48:20 PM »
was recently at my friends house, and was astonished to see his Ice cream mango tree, about 6 yr old, and 8ft tall, holding a decent crop of fruit (maybe 15-20).

the reason I was so surprised, is because his tree is growing in a very crowded location, with other trees all around, blocking full sun, and creating a moist environment, with reduced air circulation.

the fruits are all impeccable...with no blemishes...also the foliage of this tree is virtually immaculate...and the owner never ever sprays any copper or fungicides.

I wonder how this can be?

So you’re saying there’s a chance?

A chance I could fruit this mango in the shade?

Poll questions and intentions a bit unclear.

Do you have a specific concern with content or format on the listings page?  Sorry, just trying to understand.

Are these fruiting right now?  I will have to go check the trails and see.  I have tried some before and sorta meh, if I remember right acidic and astringent.  Always chance I got at poor level of ripeness tho, gotta try again.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Allspice seeds and Berries
« on: November 01, 2022, 11:13:40 PM »
Hi All, The Allspice (pimenta dioica) are in season so have fresh seeds or berry's $.25 ea. plus shipping                                          Regards    Patrick

How difficult are they to germinate?  I’d be interested in giving it a go most likely.

25
At those seed prices tho, buying the fruit is for sure a better option, even at those boutique prices from Miami Fruit compared to shelling out $100 for 10 seeds and not getting to try the fruit, plus I’m sure the fruit has good bit more than 10 seeds.  I guess I would just want to be sure nothing was done to it that would make the seeds unviable.
