I make slow drip coffee and put all my used grounds around all my trees and potted plants. I believe they will break down and will release some nutrients. They may also deter some insects and lower the pH slightly.

Just 1:1 bone meal and dry coffee grounds couple handfuls tilled into the soil arounD the plant artichokes, tomatoes, roses and cape gooseberry really seemed to like it a couple times a season in addition to regular fertilising. When I had a rabbit hutch and used their pellets at the same time as the bone meal grounds mix my plants have never been happier.
I used to work promoting delonghi coffee machines at this time and had unlimited grounds.
But the grounds also make a good edition to compost heaps:)

At the very least, they're going to add a little organic matter and make the soil less alkaline--both good things.

I regularly use spent coffee grounds on all low PH loving plants, blueberries, Citrus, Miracle Fruit, Jaboticaba. It's free low dose fertilizer that many coffee shops will have waiting for you if you ask about spent grounds. I see a positive response from everything but the Miracle Fruit which I can't seem to figure out exactly what it wants, or I don't have those conditions anywhere.

You can go to any Starbucks and ask them for coffee grounds and they will gladly give them to you.

I mulch with spent coffe grounds from my coffeemaker and Starbucks.  However, I'm debating whether I should continue doing so, because pesticides are heavily used growing coffee beans
