I use Buddy tape on small grafts.
I add green tape over.
I use only Saran Wrap type plastic and or green tape on big grafts.

Use what ever you have and make sure the graft is air tight.

I graft in the morning when the humidity is high.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Young Cherimoya: to defoliate in February?

I would remove the top leaves now, to get the buds going.

I heard seller was from AZ.
Here people were paying $140 each.

Giant Atis comes from Richard in Walnut.
The fruit gets big and turn yellow when mature in spring.
My tree is small so the fruits are bland.
Just need to wait out until the tree get big to get good fruits.

35
How many pounds per variety?

My 4’x5’ yields 20 lbs, around 1 lbs per square foot.
My trees are 4x4 or 4x5.

36
Here in my yard cherimoya leaves don’t burn unless it’s 90F and low humidity.
No need to shade now.

Here cherimoya needs less warmth than sugar apple.
So you could defoliate cherimoya now.

It could flower on 3rd year, but doesn’t need special fertilizer.
Prune and strip leaves in spring.

I would cut low to develop more branching.
Fruit from small root system is poor so I won’t let it fruit at this size.

39
In my yard guava seedlings flower from 9 months to 3 years.

Find them and use them as interstock.
The unknown is how interstock affect fruit quality.

Maybe your tree is not ready to flower.

I trim guava in February, the coldest month.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Problem with 'Sabará' . . . .
« on: January 16, 2024, 10:53:51 PM »

Wow, must be warmer down there than SB. I haven't had to water my jabos for weeks.

Temperature gets up to 65F in the afternoon.
Humidity is low so car stay dry overnight.
That’s why I watered daily.

I skip a day when the saucer still hold water overnight.

Potting mix with sand and pumice added
1” holes in pot, above saucer, to provide air to roots
Watering daily, even now in winter.

45
Red jabo trunk is around 1”, in 15g pot.
4’ tall including pot
In my yard it flowers year round.
New flowers emerged when fruits mature, so about 4 times a year.
It’s flowering right now but I don’t know if it would get fruits over winter.

Tropic sun trunk is over 1”, inside 15g pot.
It’s 6’ tall right now, but I trim back new growth to 1” in April.
So it’s 3’ tall, including pot, in April.
It flowers from new shoots so I can trim it close to pollarding.
It can hold 10 fruits if I hand pollinate.

46
My 2 favorites in container are red jabo and tropic sun atemoya.

Any messes inside trap?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What is a good rootstock for pomelos?
« on: January 02, 2024, 01:21:30 AM »
I have a pomelo seedling in pot, with 3 varieties grafted.
Tree is holding only 1 fruit, Valentine.
T-budding on it was difficult due to thick bark.
I’m not noticing anything special about it.
