I have an area that is shaded from some surrounding pine trees. What tropical fruit trees would do well in this area? Grass grows well there and is irrigated.

Well I live east of you in PSL off Rosser one mile south of Gatlin and I grow and fruit Pickering, Cogshall, Sweet Tart and Lemon Zest mango no problem.  Also Avocado and several different musa - bananas.  Biggest problem right now is NO RAIN.  The Irrigation system has had times increased per zone. and am just about ok.

Thanks Dan, I actually live a little east of you off Savona. I have 4 mangoe trees currently, a Carrie, Southern Blush, and 2 Kents. They are not too shaded from the pines except in the am. I'm looking to expand to other trees. I also have a small Ava ad and a couple bananas. I do have an Inga, Tropic Beauty peach, and a Hybrid Red Jabotacaba in pots I'm ready to plant. Trying to find out if any of those or need to go in a different direction for that area.

I planted an Australian finger lime under my huge oak. Also avocados seem to like shade.
Most Eugenia seem darker green with partial sun as apposed to constant sun.

If grass grows it must have quite a bit of light.

Here's what does OK for me in semi shade with slower growth and fruiting... banana, loquat, Lemon drop mangosteen (maybe too cold for LDM by you) lemon guava, Feijoa (too warm for me to get fruit but they grow well here under other trees) pineapple and Papaya.
Regards,

In my backyard there is a huge passionfruit vine growing up to the top of a large pine tree. Interesting use of the vertical space, and since fruits need to ripen and fall no problem having it 3 floors up.

There are some low chill blueberries that would work (they can take partial shade).

There are some low chill blueberries that would work (they can take partial shade).

You would want anything under 200 chill hours.  Some varieties require cross pollination and some are considered self fertile but even the self fertile will benefit from cross pollination.

You can go to Agristarts to see some of the low chill varieties and then search out nurseries in your area that sell them.

Univ of Florida has a good page for recommendations for blueberries for home gardeners. In short they recommend Southern Highbush cultivars such as Emerald, Jewel, Star etc.
