adam that is way larger than 7 gallons. here is the 7 gallon pot the jab came in before I transplanted to its current pot which is about 5-6 times bigger

sheehan, unlike you, i care for the welfare of my trees and have no desire to stress my jab tree out by turning it on to its side with the resultant land slide that will occur. besides, I am currently living it up in FL some 1500 miles away from trees.
but based on Adams pic of his 15 gallon, i would estimate this to be at least 25 gallons. am i crazy?

That looks like a 5gal not a 7 gal....be careful many different odd ball sizes can throw u off...your pot  is no bigger than 10gal, I still think its about 7 gal....and your tree could stand to stay in the same pot for a while still!

Just my opinion! ;)

measure the diameter of the pot...my guess is its not more than about 14inches, keep in mind the pot is thick so it looks bigger than it is, measure from inside wall to inside wall, not outer edge to outer edge...the walls  are over an inch thick on each side, giving a false appearance of larger volume....Im guessing...like a 10 gal almost maybe...I could be wrong, just trying to help! :)

I agree with Adam...don't think it is any bigger than 10 gal.  Just carefully tilt the pot enough to look at the bottom.  Should tell you the number of quarts it is.  If you don't want to tilt the pot, then be a He-Man and lift it up and look that way!  I've received 7 gal trees before and I honestly believe the container would not hold as much as a five gal bucket.

I would say 10 gal max.

now you have me curious...you know I repot plants like a dirty nursery man for years now....so I'm wondering if your estimate of 5-6 times bigger, of your supposed 7gal, may be a off by about 20gal.
 ;) :D ;D

What size is your pot? diameter 14in from inside wall to inside wall?? :-\ :)

Adam my thought that my pot was about 30 gallosn was based on the nursery selling me what they call 7 gallon size trees in containers that are at least 3 times smaller than the container my jab is now in. also, the container your 15 gallon sap, that you posted seems substantially smaller than my jab container. still, unlike you, im not a container size expert so i fully allow that i may be way off base. as soon as i get back to ny, i will try and see if the size is written on the container- otherwise, Ill measure dimensions.

I could be offon my ross pot size estimate, that ross may have fruited in a 10 gallon,, it was similar in design to yours!!LOL :)  Maybe we both have 10gal pots?

Hey, a good way to roughly figure how big your pot is by using the formula for gallons in a cylinder:

Volume = Pi x radius squared x length

Say we have a container that has a diameter of 22 inches and a height of 33 inches,  how many gallons in this pot?

Gallons = 3.14 x 11 inches squared x 33 inches tall
= 12538.02 cubic inches      (There are 231 cubic inches per gallon, so divided by 231 to get gallons.)

            = 54.27 gallons

Hope this helps--
Jack

thanks Duncan.
so, I measured the  container- its 20 inches across (inside walls) and17 inches high- using duncan's formula, this makes it 23 gallons- this has to be reduced somewhat as the pot tapers inwards a little towards the bottom- so its prob 18-20 gallons. here  is another pic of the container. how much longer do u think i can keep it in his container.

You'd be surprised, depending on lighting, fertilization, heat, pruning, and moisture....you could keep that jabo in the same pot for another 3 or more years!

I'm impressed with your collection way up in the North Pole!
