Grafting Tutorials by Joe Real
« on: April 01, 2016, 12:57:46 PM »
I was at the Santa Clara Valley Section of the California Rare Fruit Growers meeting in 2007 when Joe Real, then of Davis, presented a citrus bark grafting demonstration at a meeting. On his way home he stopped at a friend's house, did some promised grafts, and in the process got a set of photographs for a tutorial.

Prior to this (in 2006) he had posted a similar tutorial for grafting deciduous fruit trees.

http://citrus.forumup.org/about500-citrus.html

Neither of these tutorials can be accessed now. I've regularly pointed folks to them, urging them to join the forum so they could see the images.

In 2007 and 2009, to save myself having to open the page and navigate it each time I wanted a look at the details I carefully copied the tutorials into a Word document.

Can anyone enlighten me regarding the copyright status of these tutorials? If the citrusforum.org no longer exists, I cannot request permission from them to 'republish' the tutorials. I am willing to 'clean them up' and save them as Acrobat documents for inclusion here and on the crfg-scvs Yahoo group, but I do not want to violate the law and/or offend Joe or Millet or any of the others who kept the citrusforums venue open for so many years.

thanks

My recollection is that the Citrus Forum does not attempt to assert copyrights over user postings, so the author (Joe) would own the copyright.  You might want to try reaching out to him directly.

Not many people seem to know about the incredibly useful 'Wayback Machine' which attempts to archive the whole internet.
For instance on 7th June 2009 it recorded one of the grafting tutorials. Find it now at
https://web.archive.org/web/20090607012756/http://citrus.forumup.org/about500-citrus.html
The other one is at
https://web.archive.org/web/20090606045806/http://citrus.forumup.org/about1762-citrus.html
However, I haven't checked whether all subsequent pages and images have been archived. Sometimes it is not complete. If so, then it's worth looking at captures on other dates.
The homepage of The Wayback Machine is at www.archive.org
Interestingly (for me) it has a copy of my own website www.homecitrusgrowers.co.uk going back to 2001! On occasion I have used it to recover photos I have lost due to hard drive failures.

I was just  looking for citrus.forumup.org and the Joe Real tutorials and came across this thread.  I'd never heard of the Wayback Machine...what a treasure.  Thanks for the links and the Wayback Machine.
