This is the take home from today's foraging at Trai Cay Ngon in Westminster. My new favorite fruit shop.

Were the mangosteens any good? I remember buying a netted bag like that in one of the stores in Little Saigon of mangosteens and lychees and both were terrible quality. I like that they have the jackfruits already cleaned and ready to eat. The jackfruit i bought there i remember was pretty good. The jacks are probably from Mexico, while the mangosteens and lychees were from Thailand.

Mangosteens were very fresh..ipened easily and the white flesh firm.

Anyone know what type of atemoya this is?  I dont have much experience with them.  Do you treat like a cherimoya as far as softening prior to refrigeration?

Yes just like cherimoya. Let it soften a bit before refrigerating.

They are tasty. I haven't had a bad one yet. Not too much latex, on the crunchy side and the seeds are very good too boiled and roasted in coconut oil. 99 ranch has been a fairly reliable source .

The Mexican jackfruit I have had are super tasty down here at Ranch 99. It looks like a Geffner Atemoya.

That shop is super pricey! The atemoyas range from $9-25 per lb.

I paid _$8 lb for the cherimoya and $9 lb for the atimoya... they have a cheaper stack of cherimoya but the "pretty" ones are $8lb for premium quality...  really good.  Never been charged anything more than that.  No prices on anything but the grandma that runs the place does have reputation for jacking up the prices if she finds someone annoying
