I bought one from them, even with gentle unpacking much of the soil was loose. It seem to me that the root ball was not well developed for a three gallon as advertised, the tree did not look as happy as the other variety I purchased. I tried to contact them as they originally miss labeled the tree but did not get a response for days . It seem they are very responsive pre sale, not so much after sadly.

Personally I would try plantogram next time, but I would purchase again if no one else has a variety I want. I will just take part of the tree and graft as back up like I did with this order .

I understand you are not responsible if the package is seized by buyer's country, but your country, really? how do you expect buyers from different countries to know what your custom rules and laws are!

- I will do the best for the package arrived of buyer hands but i'm not responsible if the package seized by my country or buyer country's customs (No refund), every country has different rules and sending seeds always has risk except for free countries.
Sorry.
Like DurianLover said, it just about planting materials.
I will change it so there will be no misunderstanding

Makes perfect sense now so thanks for fixing it.  PM sent.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango ID please ?
« on: December 14, 2018, 08:11:38 PM »
I purchased two vareities of mango from a nursery in Florida, Orange Sherbat and Pina Colada, they arrived couple of days ago with two tags on one tree and none on the other, I have no idea which is which and I am still waiting to hear back from the nursery to confirm the trees, any one here can ID them by leaves ?

The large black spot crossing over the midrib and other veins is probably anthracnose.

I also see patches of it on the main stem, which is still green as the seedling is only few months old, would generous amount of Neem and all season help combat anthracnose?

Can any help ID what this is on my young Nam Doc Mai seedling grown from seed ?

I did my research before I posted and I found it fascinating. I also planted Nam Doc Mai seeds and saw as the first, biggest, most purple plant with the biggest leaves is very different from the others.
I love seeds and I respect Nature. In my knowledge and experience a grafted tree will never be as strong and big as a tree grew from seed. Trees from seed live longer too.

So is your Nam Doc Mai variety poly-embryonic seed type that will grow true to mother tree?

As the title suggests I realize they may not be in season, any advice when and who has seeds or seedlings, trust tested only please.

Forget about Purple Mangosteen, go with Seashore Mangosteen first and if it grows well in your climate, use it as a rootstock for Purple Mangosteen.

Propagation and Culture

Seashore mangosteen is propagated by seeds, which germinate in 3-4 weeks.  It may be used as a rootstock for mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) (mangosteen grafting).  It is very tolerant adverse soil and climatic conditions, being adapted to growing in sandy and rocky soils near the beach in its native habitat.  It also grows well in acid clay soils, and tolerates drought as well as high rainfall.  Grows and fruits from sea level to over 1,500 feet (457 m) elevation.

In Puerto Rico, seashore mangosteen flowers from February to April, and fruits from June to August.  A mature tree can produce 300-500 or more fruits per year.

Thats great, thank you for the share, any idea who has those seeds?

At least a few. This Madruno is taller than I am , no greenhouse protection, 7 hours north of San Diego.
The tree has apparently hopscotched over CA and looks like it wished it lived in San Diego though. No new growth flush yet this year. Still trying to dial in the best location for it.

What garcinias can you grow in SD? Do you have a large greenhouse for them?
I used to have button mangosteen seedlings before they died.

Thats awesome ! please share pictures lets see it :-)
