New jackfruit varieties???
« on: July 29, 2017, 11:21:25 PM »
Saw a bunch of jackfruits at Champa Nursery today.  Never heard of these varieties before.  Wonder if anyone else has or have any info?  'Orange Crush', 'Small', 'Cantaloupe'.

Those are all new Fairchild varieties.   If you dont mind medium firm or medium soft texture or softer, then you might like them.  I say might cause the one samlle if each was nothing to go crazy over.  The texture of the fruit I had was not to my liking (I can honestly say I have no idea how the were cared for during and after harvest).  Texture aside, as far as taste and texture combined, I would much rather have Red Morning,  Excalibur Red,  Bangkok Lemon/Krunchy Lemon,  Excalibur Gold, Amber, J-30, Mai 3, etc.

Thanks guys.  I preferred firm or 'crunchy' texture and sweet.

I picked up my Red Morning and Bankok Lemon yesterday at Excalibur and planted them today. I was planning on Mai 3 but changed my mind to BL for I thought it might offer me a different flavor profile while assuring me a solid yield when the time comes. I do like the color Orange for just about anything but I will have that in Red Morning. Ok, to keep the peace, I will say orange red.
