Yeah, I have tiny trees on FD from recent graphs producing significant crops already.  They will produce fast

40 years and only 2in diameter?  That is amazing.

All of the jackfruit and its artocarpus relatives I have growing in containers did poorly, even outdoors and in greenhouse in winter.  Might just be the container soil mix for me, though.

These turned out to be too vigorous for me in ground, I have been re-grafting onto Flying Dragon for my greenhouse.  You might have better luck in containers, indoors, without them getting out of hand

These are full sun plants so you want to make sure no parts are significantly shaded by other nearby plants.  The exact dimensions aren't really important.  With my many, many container trees I end up arranging them all so that the full-sun-only plants are shading the part-shade plants, but not each other.  It is like a puzzle every spring to find the best fit.

Yeah I check fruitlovers.com seed list regularly but there is a ton of stuff listed there that is never actually in stock even if you watch all year.  Oh well, I'll report back if I see 'em for sale

They are great, I have bought one of almost everything they sell over the years.  Prices used to be significantly cheaper a couple years ago. Now they are not price competitive but quality is still excellent

I understand that Kishu mandarins have a reputation for being tasty but too small for commercial cultivation.  I don't quite understand this, as they aren't really smaller than most of the mandarins sold as clementines/cuties/halos/whatever.   They are consistently seedless, excellent tasting, and very easy to peel. 

This are definitely one of my favorite varieties of the citrus I've grown, and they are quite productive even in a container. 


They are ripe when green-yellow for me, and are approaching overripeness by the time they are fully orange

Mine has been problem-free and is a great producer.  Mine are sweet, but not super sweet as others said.  Mine are HUGE though, the size of large grapefruit/small pummelo.  My only complaint about these is that the flesh near the bump on the top of the fruit is sometimes dry, I saw similar effect with Valentine pummelo.

I had a small owari that was never all that healthy, it would grow some, fruit some, and die back some.  Eventually it died completely.  However, the fruit was always very good!  I wonder if it is the growing conditions rather than the age of the tree that is the issue for you.  Or could be just bad luck

Kumquats and mandarins are both relatively compact growers compared to pummelos, oranges, lemons, grapefruit.  You should be fine.

In containers you will likely be okay without dwarfing rootstock.  When I transplanted some container oranges and grapefruit into the ground they got huge quickly, though
