Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Persian Mulberry Fruits - in SoCal
« on: July 31, 2023, 09:55:57 AM »
Persian mulberry is very good, nice, juicy and sweet (the juice stains hands/fingers). I prefer them to the Pakistan variety but they are both good. The Pakistan fruits very early in the year, and the Persians are just now coming in (been eating them the last two weeks or so)

My tree has been very fruitful, however, the fruit seem to be a little smaller this year for some reason.

I think it's an underripe Dr. White- could be fully ripe on the counter top in a few days possibly.

After looking at some photos i believe it is Dr. White as well

Interesting podcast! Thanks for posting.

It is promosing that they are breeding mangos to replace old Tommy atkins, I hope the change happens sooner rather than later

I received the budwood yesterday and all the varities were in excellent condition. Thanks for the freebies as well!

Remember the possibility of twins and triplets from sexual reproduction;  so an occasional occurrance of more than one plant from seeds of a variety that normally seems to be monoembryonic are not necessarily proof of polyembryony, even though the latter tends to be our first guess.

That's wild I haven't even thought of that! Are most "twins" identical?

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Stone fruits?
« on: June 27, 2018, 06:51:46 PM »
My stone fruits have all been disappointments. It seems the ones that flowered and fruited heavily last year have no fruit set this year. Inca plum looks to be my only constant producer. Some are still young but the majority are eyeing the chopping block to be replaced by sub-tropicals.

The sucker will produce fruit of any unknown quality and will take away the energy your sugar apple needs to grow. I would remove it.
