Effects of frost damage is not evident for week to 10 days. If you notice drying leaves or shivered up branches, cut them off asap.

I have read that if there is still frost advisory. Leave it as the dry leaves acts as a barrier or protection in case of frost event again.i i will take out once we get consistent 50 at night. This consistent  cold weather is unpredictable.

Gozp you have unprotected mangoes in high twenties without damage? No overstory trees? Looks like open air. What would you attribute this to?

My front yard is unprotected, out-in-the-open with no overstory trees. My lows are brief. If i get 8 hours of consistent low 20s. Most of my trees wud be dead by now.

Do ilamas have a lot of seeds like cherimoyas, or are they less seedy?  I liked rollinia for the fact that it has more pulp vs. seeds than cherimoyas.

They are seedy, however, there is more flesh to seed ratio (at least the ones i had).

Pros can chime in.

I have had rosada from JF last year & i do really enjoyed the unique taste with tiesa texture.

Yes not as good as an atemoya or cherimoya, however, ilamas are a league on their own.

PCG,

nice trees!!

definitely blooms coming on that grimal scion you posted pics of...

looks like Grimal is also winning the race on your cocktail tree, but seems like not by much, the growth rate is pretty evenly matched...the tree looks well balanced.

thanks for sharing pics, they look super happy.

good investment that will pay dividends  ;D

Yep from professor jabo man 101.

Thanks again, adam.

Finally, it wont be as cold as I have experienced for the past month.
Accdng to weather stations, i wont be seeing low 30 temps anymore... earlier this AM, my coldest ticked in to 30..

Trees still looking good out in the open, unprotected, despite several occasions of frost i have encountered.

Here are some photos of my mangoes

Lz on manila from JF

Honey kiss on turp

Seedling corriente suffered the most damage -- there are some geafts that i did this fall and are still green (elena, cecilove, st)-- will cocktail this seedling this coming spring

Sweet tart on turp

Phoenix on turp

Calostro by jf

After getting low 30s less than a month, and several occasions of high 20s.. i think by feeding them organic fert specifically oyster shell & langbeinite helped them thrive through our harsh weather.

Im glad that we are starting to warm up for now.

Here are my grafted jaboticabas on a sabara as rootstock which i got from adam almost 2 years ago now...

All of these i planted in a 15 gal using 100% dirt..

Coronata - restinga

Grimal

3in1 (aureana, restinga,grimal)

Possible grimal swelling buds on 3in1..

Sabara i got from lynn

As time passes by, from dirt it became porous soil after infusing them with compost tea, organic ferts, coffee grounds &leftover fruits/ veggie...

I have more red jabos, esalq, escarlate, blue, yellow jabo not in photos but r growing well with initial dirt.

They have experienced 122f & 27f with no problems.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Sale: 2019 anona scions sale
« on: February 20, 2019, 08:35:45 PM »
For those who thinks they are buying leftovers, u are not required to buy scions from the seller, its totally an option since most of his varieties cant be bought elsewhere.

Exactly why I stated I won't be purchasing, since this is an open public forum I stated my reasons, if the seller wants to take the feedback for future sales or not its up to him, I am not required to buy luckily as you stated ;-)

FYI Just because something is not available else where does not necessary make it more attractive to most of us, I can justify paying the minimum required amount if I knew I could get 2 or 3 of the varieties I really wanted, but they are sold out. Paying for 4 more wood varieties to get that one is not feasible I wish I was made of money to do that ;-)

No hard feelings like I said I wont be purchasing ;-)

The OP started this thread for those who wants to purchase scions--not for unsolicited opinions.

Back to topic of who wants to buy wood.

Due to popular demand, i think JF is prioritizing those that are out-of-state than local. Its not easy to fill out orders when u have 174737282x orders.

One of my mangoes sufffered aesthetic damage due to cold.
We have been getting Constant 3 weeks of low 30s & high 20s (27f) on several occassions.

362
Awesome list.

No pina colada & guava?

363
Can he approach graft a different rootstock?  Would that at least alleviate the problem?

I have tried this but the results were mixed so I don’t recommend it. I would rather start with a rootstock that does perform well here.

For anyone using Abound, make sure you are following the recommendations and not applying it more than you should. Also make sure you are alternating it with other fungicides from a different group so that the organisms don’t build up resistance.

If you’re using this product without knowledge of How to alternate it with fungicides from a different group, you probably shouldn’t be using it. We could be creating superbugs that are resistant to Azoxystrobin.

Simon

Absolutely. I used it once upon drenching a newly transplanted plant from Fl to kill any possible harmful microorganism as a precautionary measure. Nothing more. Nothing less.

364
Gummosis & dieback.

365
I lost all my mango trees from FL few years back but after using abound on newly delivered trees from FL, i spray and drench them with abound. As well as drench with seaweed and powder & pellet mycorrizae...

So far so good. No noticeable gummosis or phomompsis(dieback) for close to 2 years now.... i know i still have a long way to go since my trees are still on the juvenile stage.

Im no expert, however, im jst sharing on what i had observed.

Here are the mango varieties i lost b4 infusing abound 15gal  carrie, 3 gal buttercream, 7 gal sweet tart, 3 15 gal lemon zests, 2 25 gal coconut cream & 3 gal guava & 3 gal taralay.

366
Not sure if this vetiver but it sows it self on steep bare spots.  Its like natures fix for bare hillsides.  It also spreads everywhere.  Wish my neighbors didnt have it growing.  It doesnt need any water and has super strong root system.

Yep u are right... those r strong can survive drought and mid 20s temps as far as my observation to my neighbors yard.

367
You can buy lemongrass seeds.  The thing with lemongrass is its tropical and needs water in summer and gets cold damaged in winter.  There are better grasses to use for our arid climate but most of them are highly invasive.

My cousin who lives 20 mins away from me (unprotected frontyard) have a big lemon grass and never got cold damage. I personally own a small lemon grass on pot & we have been consistently been on the low 30s, 27 the lowest and i dont see no cold damage. I own the lemon grass for 2 yrs now.

368
Some aesthetic damage to my mango & lucuma seeems dont like my high 20s temps....

;)

Currently 39 out in the front.
