twisted jaboticaba (braiding/twining Myrciarias)
« on: September 23, 2015, 07:18:51 PM »
Here is a Red Jaboticaba I started to twine together.

I bet you could twist two species together, like Sabara and Grimal, or White and Red, and basically approach graft them without cutting the cambium

maybe I will try it in the future...it would take some planning, and lots of pruning, but it wouldn't be impossible...and it could produce a really unique specimen.

It will be interesting to see how it fruits, some trees wont fruit if braided together. Another great experiment from the jabo wizard.

lol thanks guys!

but really this wasn't that hard, all you do is twist them together and wait for them to fuse...it only took about 20 seconds to twist them together, and then it took about 3-4 weeks for them to start fusing.

over the years I will have to maintain it though, which will require plenty of training, twisting and pruning.

Did you "do" this Adam?

I have a bunch of seedlings that did this naturally

yes I purposefully did this, they were not naturally intertwined.

I've got about 4 solid full twists in the trunk so far, the more twists I can get, the cooler it will look.

Hey Adam,

Did you top one tree off? like in grafting?  also did it affect fruiting at all?
