uvaia (eugenia pyriformis) suckering like crazy
« on: October 31, 2016, 08:43:52 PM »
Hi, I am amazed by this uvaia (I think this is not e. lutescens), it is the only one I know -of 24 trees-, that suckers like crazy... first I thought that those 20 little plants below the tree were just seedlings from many seeds on the pots, but no: when I removed the soil, they where attached to the root and had tiny root systems... so I am happy because I got many more little uvaias to grow, I hope they grow fine.

Nice find! I'm curious to see how many of the little guys will survive.
If the fruit is not very special, this could be a nice rootstock for sweet varieties  ;D

Yes, all of them had roots (mixed), so it's a miracle for me... I hope all my fruit trees would do that! They should all be fine in the shade now.

About my supposed acid uvaias -none of them fruited yet-, I was planning to use them just for juices, brasilians wrote in many blogs that they drink them that way

Yeah, juice and "caipirinha de uvaia" :)
A few does vinegar with her.
