How long does Mamey sapote seeds remain viable? Will they remain viable if stored in the fridge?

Depends on the type of mamey. A lot of mameys sprout already inside the fruit. Those wouldn't be so good to put inside the fridge. Unsprouted mamey seeds you could put in warmer part of refrigerator for a few weeks in slightly moistened medium.

You gotta be more precise in what you call Mamey :

In Mexico it is : Pouteria sapote

In Guatemala it is : Mammeya americana

In the places that Mammea americana is called mamey it is not followed by the word sapote.

Here they get called mameys or mamey sapote and mammea is M.americana.

Here Mammea americana is called mammee apple. I think Morton coined that name to avoid confusion. But mammee apple is still quite rare here. Mamey sapote is a bit more common here, but even it is not that common. I think there is only one farm with good size planting of mamey sapotes.

Hehehe here Mamey Sapote goes for Mamey, and is very well known,
Mammea Americana is not even known in the Pacific Coast or I would say most of Mexico, in the Gulf of Mexico (Veracruz) is quite common and is call "Sapote Domingo"
I suspect because long time ago it was brought in the ships from Santo Domingo, but I could be wrong of course....

They are in the markets here now and no one buys them even though they are the best varieties.For some reason they just don't catch on here.
