It seems like only yesterday that a younger Sheehan was asking about this variety.
OK, five years, but who's counting?   I believe the owner of the original Royal Purple thought that these mangos would come true to seed.
So, it may be worth a trip to Merritt Island, or you could check out their web site. http://enseytropicalfruit.com/

Lol, you're right. The description made it sound so good, but I finally had the opportunity to sample some a few years ago and they were horrible.

The description hooked me too.  I got a tiny tree and it is coming along nicely.  I look forward to being disappointed by the rubbish fruit in a few years.

And is the taste of Royal Purple not something than can be improved by added magnesium and potassium twice yearly?

I would doubt to any detectable degree. Its just extremely bland.
