Is it possible to graft other types of artocarpus?
« on: April 27, 2017, 08:46:50 PM »
Hello friends,

After much watching the forum, I decided to register and have an account!

I have a doubt:

Is it possible to graft artocarpus (jackfruit I know it is possible), marang, pedalai and fruit bread?

Or is it possible only cuttings of roots as we do here in Brazil?

Thank you

Lucia

Marang and Chempedak will graft to jackfruit. I would think that Lakoocha and Kwai Muk would be compatible but I haven't tried it yet. I know breadfruit is commonly airlayered here in Florida.

I graft breadfruit on to breadnut/castaņo.  With breadfruit and marang the green material is pretty thick so breadnut fits the bill in terms of matching diameters for the cleft grafts that we do.  I graft champedek onto Jakfruit as the diameters are similar.  We also air layer breadfruit.

If cleft fails you can approach for a "sure thing"

When doing approach graft you need to cut into the wood or you can just remove the bark and expose the cambium of the two plants?
I did some but I only removed the bark cause the plant were small and the branch slim, but I fear doing so doesn't attach properly.
