This tree is maybe 6 to 8 years old, 2cm thick in the base of the main trunk.

http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=25386.0

Adam S. identified it as myrciaria cauliflora, jaboticaba paulista...

Do you think It is having its first flower buds right now?

it would be so............... awesome!

Now I am more sure, the one from the above (not the white one, the brown one) should be a flower bud:

You're right! Looks similar. Also I found pictures here: www.marriedtoplants.com/flowering-plants/jaboticaba-fruiting-first-time-garden/
That show floral buds on a jaboticaba that eventually fruits. Yours could also bare fruit soon hopefully!!

Hi, I tought that it was myrciaria cauliflora, but now Helton think that it could be plinia coronata, a wild variery... I suspect that there would be a lot of p. coronata varieties, as I have one coronata that is really different to this one.

Coronata takes years before to fruit. Some vars can take up 20 years, and become a huge tree! Take a look: http://loucosporjabuticaba.blogspot.com.br/2010/10/fotos-de-jabuticaba-paulista.html
I think yours is to much young.

yes... I will get crazy soon: so Adam thinks it is paulista, but Helton thinks it is a wild coronata, but you think it cant be coronata because it is too young 7 or 8 years old to flower? hey, lets meet together and fight!

Maybe it is coronata and I just fertilized it ok

Maybe it is paulista and it is ok...

I dont know

If it is coronata or something else, we will find it with the first fruits

Yeah, is pretty hard to do a good identification. Even with fruits in hand, sometimes it isn´t a precise job.
What matters is that she is fruiting, all the rest is just history. ;)
Just enjoy the fruits.  8)

Congratulations, Marcos!
I thought they looked like flower buds as well, but you know more about Jaboticaba's then I do. I'm looking forward to find out what type of fruit this one will give. The plant is absolutely amazing. Very beautiful! Good luck

Thanks for your words, Solko, I hope so... the supposed buds are so tiny... just 1mm or so, and growing very very slow... maybe I will see some flowers in 2 or 3 weeks, and maybe fruits in 2 months if all things went ok! ;), if not, it is ok for me, there are a lot of plants doing well and this spring will be amazing. I hope you are doing ok with your project. Go out and find more jaboticabas!

I took a look at mine, it has similar bumps on the trunk and larger branches, it has yet to bloom also, but it doing very well.  I think it's practically doubled in size over the last year or 9 months.

Maybe they are future buds, once the tree is ready??  I guess we'll see.  I do love my Jab, even if it never blooms, it's just such a gorgeous tree, it reminds me of a very large bonsai tree, if there could be such.

Here is a pic of my Jab. In the back left is a poor little Satsuma orange tree (I know it's technically a tangerine).  I had to cage it off as the deer kept eating every single flush of new growth it had, almost killed it.

I agree, they are amazing trees even if they never flower of fruit. Some weeks ago a collector who is an agronomist from Misiones (land of jaboticabas!) told me that the jaboticabas have a phenomenon called "cauliflorus", and it is assumed that the flower buds are in the trunk months or years before opening ... but I find it very incredible ... so what species is your jaboticaba? (coronata, sabará?) age? very nice

Here are some pics of the flowers popping up on mine. This tree last flowered in the summer of 2016. Skipped 2017 for reason. While it is a beautiful tree, like it much better when it fruits.
