Grafting persimmon question.
« on: December 31, 2017, 04:34:03 PM »
I have a large astringent persimmon that I would like to top-work to a sweet persimmon variety, if that is possible.  Will this work and will the graft take?  If this is possible, does anyone know a good variety?
I am an American from California with a small farm in Southern Brazil.

If nobody has tried this, I will give it a shot and see if it works.  Does anyone know where I can get scions of good cultivars of persimmons?

Hello,

I suggest you look for nurseries in São Paulo, they have many varieties of persimmon.

Look with Edilson Giacon from Viveiro Cipreste.

I've done over a dozen varieties onto fuyu and they worked. Not sure about long term because the trees died a couple years later.

I'll give it a try.  Thanks Alexandre for the lead in SP.  Do they do mail orders to send to Santa Catarina?

Hi

Yes, they can ship by Jadlog or another carrier, there are many nurseries that have these varieties and already grafted.

I only cultivate Rama Forte, the others I did not invest in seedlings.

Boa sorte!

That's good to hear. I'm starting persimmons again this year.
