Wow, that was fast. Orange Sherbert in SoCal.  Good luck.  I hope it proves to be a winner.

Bill... Real OS Zills grafted trees are still not in CA yet, as far as I know.  The picture from Gozp is of a tree in Florida.  With a backlog of 100's of OS trees (from one exporter to CA), it may be a while before we see them 1 gallon looking OS trees (at 3 gallon prices).

[edit 6/25/18] What a miracle... OS arriving in CA this week or next.  I placed and paid for my order today 6/25.

I just ordered some OS trees.  You can get them from Treasure of the Tropics while quantities last.  It is best to call her (Lynn) directly.

Yes, I actually have 2 clonal seedlings which have both been in production for a few years. I haven't noted any variation between the two nor between mine and Walter's tree. I selected those two from a group of several dozen seeds, based on my knowledge of the tree on Walter's property -- leaf shape, growth habit, and sap smell.

Jeff, can you describe sap smell? I have a LZ seedling that is onto year 3 completed this June. Leaves are not curly like LZ, sap smell is not like LZ but very very strong citrusy smell, those who smelled it couldn't believe its mango leaves. wondering if sap smell of your OS is citrusy as well. It almost seems like I might be getting some kind of a variant of LZ and hoping for a better one. This seed came from Gary @ Palm Springs that has LZ and Maja Chinook next to each other along with other varieties. cross pollination is a possibility,

I need to go smell the difference. From memory, the smell was near equivalent. And, yes, the leaf is not wavy like that of LZ.

more interested in sap smell. Like Peach Cobbler sap smell is very citrusy and unique if you break leaf at note and smell sap there, and then crush leaf and smell it. very unique.

Considering I have a new graft of PC that's pushing this is really nice to know.

Christmas came early yesterday and the Pineapple Pleasure (which I'm growing) is huge!

Hi Behl,

Is the one you are talking about the same one I smelled in April?  That particular one had such a heavy citrus scent.  I was wondering how that one tree is growing.  Hopefully very healthy still.

yes, that's the one. vigorously growing. I have already transferred it on 4 trees to preserve in anticipation of high quality offspring possibly next year.

Don't know how you got them in ca . They must all be seedlings I think walter Zill has the only big tree.  And Gary just released the 3 gallons. Jeff said his two are seedlings.

I just bought the Orange Sherbet, Buttercream, Guava, and Orange Essence trees from Truly tropical.  I’m going to use them as budwood sources to top work existing trees.

Mine is definitely grafted. Small. Looks like a 1 gallon maybe 2 feet tall. It was shipped. 3 gallons is being generous 😀 i

Looks like it was bud grafted

I have a seedling OS here. Has a very citrusy smell. To me it smells the same as LZ (also seedlings, no grafted trees here). I hope I got the clone, but either way should be interesting. None of my other trees have the citrus factor.

The leaves on my OS and LZ don't have much smell yet. Most of the sap is going to the fruits. Will have to remember to check the sap smell when I harvest fruits. But, I remember them being identical.

One thing I have been noticing now that I've been comparing the lemon series mangoes (PPK, LZ, and OS) is that PPK is more similar to OS than to LZ. LZ has a milder flavor and a different flesh consistency, also less prone to jelly seed. Bummer that zills stopped grafting LZ, as it's my favorite mango of the 3. Brix on the first few LZ's has been in the low 20's. PPK has been in the high teens, with a couple of fruits hitting 20. Haven't tested OS yet this year.

Check out this new video from Sulcata Grove.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-L-kqD1gEZI

I eat a good mango the same way, chow down close to the skin where a lot of turpenes seem to hide and then go in for the kill around the seed.
