Hard to see, but looks like Michelia champaca. Doubt it's edible.

:-) I actually wouldn't consider it a waste of space. They are really sought after for their fragrance. There is a while cultivar too. They are also called "Joy Perfume" trees.

:) It's hard to see the pic...But cookie monster may be right..:)

Michelia champaca, has a wonderful fragrance to it's flowers, and orange flowers..

Michelia champaca - Alba, is the white flowered variety of the same plant. This is the one i have, same scent, but white flowers. I can't see your flower but i'm adding a pic of a few of mine. They should look familiar, just different in color.

My champaca doesn't have any fruit on it...Wait till you get a better ID of it before you eat anything, just to be safe. I don't think they are edible.

The white one doesn't normally set seeds (fruit) here in south FL at least. The yellow one will set seeds though.

The white one is a different species, it is Michelia alba, here called Pak lan. Here it also rarely fruits. But last year i got some surprise seeds from it. Usually Pak lan is propagated by air layers.

The alba sets fruit here in SoCal although much fewer than the yellow kind. Airlayers take longer than for lychee. I took one a few years ago to control its height.

How big are the fruits in the first post? The ones I saw on the yellow flowered tree were small grape sized.

This fruit has not much fruit, just mostly red seeds. They pop open when ready.
