Phet Pakchong and Nuathong Origin
« on: April 13, 2012, 01:15:44 AM »
Here is what I was told about the Phet Pakchong and Nuathong by Mr. Kawit Wanichkul, a researcher in Thailand:

"The Annona Hybrids 'PhetPakchong' is the hybrid between (Cherimoya X Sugar apple 'Nang Krang') X Sugar apple 'Nang Kiew #102 and the Annona hybrid 'Nuathong' is the hybrid between (Cherimoya X Sugar apple 'Nang Kiew') X Sugar apple 'Nang Kiew #31'. Both cultivars were developed by the researchers of Kasetsart University at Pakchong research station in 2000."

Phet means diamond and Nuathong means 'golden flesh' or 'golden pulp'. I assume 'diamond' is referring to the shape of the fruit. What do you guys think?

a word to those on the forum ive distributed scions of Nuathong and pet pak chong,,
unfortunately the rare fruit council of broward county, has the plants mislabeled at their plant sale.(at least they did in 2010)  and now my favorite atemoya ive had is pet pack chong.  Nuathong has been large nicely formed, but bland for me

so the if I sent u a Nuathong, it's a pet pak, and the other way around.

thanks to S h e e h a n, I think I've figure out which is which.

thanks for the help murahilin.

Thanks for the information. :) I never knew that Phet Pakchong is a triple cross hybrid.  Do you have a link of a picture of Nuathong Atemoya?

Not sure about a diamond shaped fruit.  I wonder why they give it this name.

Also Nuathong has a gold blush to skin, but not pulp...I think it must be a reference to the skin color....it also has small red/pink dots sometimes.

thanks for the link, and the proper spelling of PhetPakChong.

How is the texture of the pulp of these varieties?  Is it creamy or rubbery?
