Carlo O. Have you tried rooting Jaboticabas with this method?
When you do, do you use rooting powder and moist soil? also, do you get hard wood or soft wood to start them?
Thanks! Xenia

This is a cry for help form the all the Jabo collectors. ;D
Since I can't get fresh Jaboticabas ship to AZ, I want to start growing my own plants, where is the best place to get the seeds/plants shipped to AZ from? Thanks in advance! Xenia  ;)

Thanks for the advice Oscar, I will put aluminum foil around it, I tried watering with a 20G needle yesterday, it was a bit time consuming with a small syringe, then I figure I use one of those ketchup bottles (bigger hole:o) it seemed to go in easier, later on I covered the small hole with the grafting tape that is tied around, I hope this works! :)

Maybe I will do an experiment, some with black plastic and some with aluminum foil ans see which one works better,  ;)

I used Sara Wrap and the grafting tape to secure it to the branch. But I could cover it with aluminun foil if it would help, I though maybe the aluminun foil may make it hotter that is why I didn't use it. Xenia

Yes the needle idea is great!
I used a combination of moth and coco fiber, and will keep and yes I am in Arizona and as you probably know is very hot and dry here, but now we are entering the monsoon season so its a bit more humid but still hot.

Peter how do I check for moisture without unwrapping it? and if it is dry, what is the best method to re-moist?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / air layering question
« on: July 12, 2015, 03:15:25 PM »
Hello! I was wondering if once you wrapped your air laying with the moist medium around, is it necessary to keep checking the medium to keep it moist? or do I just leave it alone and just check in a few weeks so see of it took?
I have read a few articles and and seen videos in how to do it, some says leave an "air hole" others just "enclose it completely" so I don't know which one is more successful, Please help, I want to air layer my guava tree. Thanks in advance! Xenia

I agree rainmeiken!   ;) I have been buying from him for years now and my trees with the exception of one are thriving. But the one that I killed it was my fault, prior to that it was growing beautifully until I transplanted it.  :'(

Yes, I find them a bit more expensive than Shamus O'Leary and Shamus is closer to me. But I did buy a couple of trees from them that died, not their fault but mine. I only have one little mango planted a Piña Colada (from Shamus) that I planted 2 months ago and it’s doing great so far, it has shoot 6 inches of new growth since then. :) I may have room for 2 more mangoes but I need to decide which kind to plant that is the reason why I wanted to try different kinds of Mangoes to make a better decision.  :D

Sorry Viking Guy, I meant to address Pan Dulce's question.
Pan Dulce your name reminds me of my childhood. :) And my kids and grandkids also know what that means. "Sweet snacks at Nana's or grandma's house" :)

Viking Guy, it also depends on location. I live in Central Phoenix, and homes here with an acre lot run around 300K+ but I own 40 acres in Ashfork AZ that I bought about 18 years ago for 15K, but I can’t grow anything tropical there. And it’s too far from home to even attempt it.  All it grows there are Juniper trees and Pinon Pines >:(

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Where to order lychee on line?
« on: June 17, 2015, 04:27:19 PM »
Hello! I live in Phoenix Arizona and the Lychee we get in the Asian stores here are pathetic and usually over ripe or very poor quality. Do you guys know of a reliable place that ships to AZ? Thanks!

Thanks! I will have to take a trip to PR and Pine Island.
I like the idea of being close to FL, do I have to go there by boat or is there a bridge to Pine Island?  :)

Thanks Naturelover, that is something I could definitely afford! :)
I hate HOA because they stick their noses in what I am supposed to plant in my own home. I get it, it may be good for keeping "property value" but I think for the most part most people take care of their homes.
Now I have a place to start my search! Thanks gain you made my day!

Thanks for the info!  :)
I tried to group them accordingly to size and appearance, and maybe that will give you a better idea about their identity. I must admit that the picture of the last two got me a bit puzzled,  I don't know if they belong to a previous group, but don't know to which one.  :o

Here are the mangoes I got today from the Mango Factory. I asked them to send me a variety of mangoes so I could try them. So I got this box with 16 mangoes and a note saying that they are Hayden, Irwin, Valencia pride and Cambodiana. The problem is that I don't have a clue which is which. :(
Any help identifying them will be greatly appreciated that way I can make a more inform decision of which one I like best.  Thanks in advance! Xenia

Thanks for all the great information. You guys pointed out things that I had not thought of. I guess I need to visit some of the areas you mention and then make my decision according to my budget. :)
For now I will stay put in Phoenix AZ where at least I can grow some things even though it’s not as much as I want. Thanks again!
