« on: June 26, 2014, 09:40:01 PM »
So I'm looking into tc and i'm wondering, the kits that come with "baby food jar caps", what are those? are those literally the caps for the baby food jars? If so, then where am i supposed to get the jar? thanks.

I have a bunch of baby food jars and lids for tissue culturing. If you're interested I can sell them to you. I bought them all a while back but never got around to doing any TC.

Thanks, but my parents would feel better buying off a website  :-[

These are what the lids look like: http://www.plantmedia.com/productinfo/3_44_292/6575/Magenta-%C2%AE-B-cap-Jar-Lid-CS-no-vent.html

Check on ebay for the jars. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xbaby+food+j&_nkw=baby+food+jar&_sacat=0&_from=R40

Where can one find protocols for specific plants to tissue culture?

I'm not sure about this but I've heard that the book "plants from test tubes"  is supposed to be good.

I have the plants from test tubes book as well...

I think later today I will make a post selling all of my unused TC stuff.

stuartdaly88,
I've found lots of specific plant tc protocols just by using google and google scholar.

http://www.kitchenculturekit.com/

I bought from them before.  The lady that runs the website is very nice.  Their plastic caps are a perfect fit to the common glass baby food jars.

They also have a yahoo group.  You might be able to find a specific recipe of agar media for what you're trying to micropropagate.

I've sucessfully propagated thousands of aroids from south east asia.  At that point, I wasn't sure what to do with them with that quantity of plants and they eventually rotted and died once the nutrient in the agar ran out.  I mostly did this for fun.

Haha, I planted about 10 aroids and couldn't keep track of them and the big one got lost and the small ones are coming out in unexpected places.

Where can one find protocols for specific plants to tissue culture?

http://scholar.google.com/

Search species name and words like 'micropropagation' or 'in vivo'.
