Seeds that are in no hurry to germinate...
« on: October 14, 2016, 07:10:00 PM »
Maybe this was covered before , sorry if it is a repeat...

In the beginning when I started collecting , being used to an average of one month germination , I must have trow away several pots with seeds after a few months of ....nothing....I know I did with Kepel apple .

I am sure most of us had the same experience if you re-use the same soil ...suddenly there's this thing coming up and you think " I didn't plant that so it must be a weed "

I think it may be beneficial to all , specially the newcomers / beginners , to make a list of the seeds that take their time .....

Since they are in season now I will start with only a few , please guys ad yours to the list :

Kwai Muk : 4 to 5 months
Eugenia stipitata : 4 months
E. stipitata ssp sororia : 4 months
E. victoriana : 4 to 5 months
E. observa : 4 months
Annona diversifolia : 7 months unless GA3 is used

Eugenia mosenii was slowest for me. Over one year. Wish I knew observa was over four months, some I got a while ago I threw around the three month mark because there were no signs of life.

I have been trying to rip out my E.observas but they keep sprouting back. Its fruit are just not good enough to be part of the back yard team. The seeds germinate quite fast I thought. The E.matossi I have next to it flowers but no fruit set.Quite a few times I have had seeds sprout years after the first ones came up. When you transplant a tree from a pot where there were quite a few seeds planted initially the disturbance can stimulate more seeds to germinate.Papaya can pop up after several years,baybarries,ilama,E.klotchiana,E.dysenterica,Duguetias,various Garcinias and so many more can respond this way.

maesobotrya barteri- I am trying to germinate these rn. I hear they can be pretty hard to sprout. But I've become a pro at germinating everything I grow. (Except for M. calabura. They sprout, but grow weak after a few months.) :P
E. Victoriana- Took 3-4 months to pop up.
Old guava seeds
Totally agree on kwai muk. Mine is over 1 year and has like 5 leaves. I might not be giving the right conditions.
E. selloi- 3 months
Seashore mangosteen- 3 months
M. vexator- took 5 months
I've had camu camu for several months with no activity whatsoever.
