Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Where to buy online in EU?

Anto, canarius look little expensive, but they work in rich area. You can easy look for smaller companies. They usually offer little smaller plants (easy to find on eBay or similar local sites such as the Allegro). Using this method You can save a lots of money. The cheapest shopping plants in Europe (even with shipping) you do in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Quality usually no way deviate from companies in Western Europe. It is just because we have lower wages (lower labor costs etc).

Hi Anto. 1 for 100-300 seedling will flower after about 1 year. Most seedling trees usually begin fruit production after 3 to 5 years, but in container/pot it can be longer.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What grows in sand?
« on: April 13, 2016, 07:55:54 AM »
In my destination, on poor ground (high % of sand) i plant (Brassica oleracea L. var. sabellica L.) and Cucumis sativus L. Cucumis need good watering.  Generally if You have moderate watering You can plant most mediterranean  plants like olive tree, phoenix dactylifera, myrthus, laurus and others. Without watering in my destination grow Festuca glauca. It is very nice but is not edible. I have festuca seeds if somebody want it.

they look nice would love to get some from just way too far!!!!!

chicomoralessxm, I send different plants for over 15 years. Most plants can easily survive 1-2 or even 3 weeks spent in the package ( if the road will not overcooling and will be sent in due time , in terms of physiological stage of life of the plant ). So good priority post service should be enough, though its expensive. Unfortunatelly Ondrej write: only EU.

Like FloridaFruitGeek write: some seeds (for example): adansonia digitata have to (or it is better when) pass through the digestive tract to be ready (to be germinated) . Of course we do not have to give seeds to eat animals. You can do this in a different way ( mechanically or chemically or even thermally) . We can do the same at home. Simulates this by soaking the seeds in acid or by removing the flesh mechanically using our hands (such as scarification) by put some seeds in hot water etc. For most tropical edible plants it is enough when you clean the seeds from the pulp.

HIfarm, try with some palms or olives tree. Sometimes it takes 3-24 months to germinate. In my opinion most seeds with hard, woody schields germinate slowly. Its take long because moisture needs time to wake embryos.

Im sorry, but i have to write it: sphagnum and coco coir is not perfect because of very fast drying and is poor in terms of ingredients useful for plant (trace elements etc). It is better to mix it with some sand, perlite and vermiculite +mineral soil +compost to have really good soil.

High-speed germinating small seeds need a different soil than long germinating and large seeds. Its long story and need a long practice and patience to find good solutions.

Extremely noble Man , a selfless , loving plants , family . A true Master in the field he loved. Will always remain in my memory. Thank You for all You do.

This is the saddest news for me this year. Just my soul cries when those people go . I had the pleasure to get in touch with Him via the Internet . This year, somehow I could not bring himself to write to Him . I live thousands of miles from the PR . Despite this, somehow I sensed that every minute is very important to Him and i cannot take any part of this time/treasure...

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Theobroma gileri
« on: December 27, 2015, 05:33:26 PM »
Luc, how are Your t. gileri now?

Friends, about minimum temperatures: all depends on how long they occur . Long-term - several days , maybe a week or two with temperatures below 40-50 F will kill (small) these and other theobroma. Big trees hold out longer.  Also the maximum temperatures are important. T. gileri treated by temperatures above 95 F  + partial sun and You could see the damage ( yellow leaves).

Before i lost my gileri i found something on leaves. Maybe it is normal (starch, saccharose or something else?) Is there anyone who find similar to these growths on gileri leaves?
