my favoured jak
« on: October 13, 2012, 08:20:30 PM »
i like others as much but not more so for eating quality but this is the one i would grow commcerially. Number one reason being its icebox size, second the high flesh: seed ratio.

It also bears good crops regularily if fertlizer kept up to it

I got this hypothesis Wrigley's Juicy Fruit chewing gum was inspired by his tasting of jakfruit

Flesh looks quite pale yellow, almost white.  Is that acurate coloration or is the camera playing tricks?

Yes, the flesh does look almost white, and almost translucent.  I have read a paper on jackfruit that lists white flesh as a documented flesh color...

Interesting pic.

As I recall, that color was the same color as the last marang I tasted in Puerto Rico.

I have only seen pix from southern india of the white, green and true pink arilled types. An Indian fellow I used to work with expressed disappointment at the jacks he could get here and that this country had more sloppies than firm fleshed types.

None its F2 from Golden Nugget (seedling selection) or so I thought but maybe not as I just re-read description and Golden nugget is described as spreading crown and this is anything but spreading crown..exact opposite in fact as it is the most pyramidal growth of any jak i have ever seen... also none of you like GN and i went to Fairchild Jak cvs and since last visit just couple days ago Golden nugget no longer listed or maybe I was having a visual block

I thought GN because of small size and high flesh seed ratio

All seedlings are pretty much like this one

This particular tree was spontaneous...came up on its own

My 2 year old grafted Golden Nugget looked like a 15 foot Chrismas tree until I chopped it down to 9 feet.
