I’m looking to purchase some Sapodilla fruit. A good friend just sent me a few fruit and they were absolutely delicious and I’m craving more. If you have any fruit available for sale, please contact me. Thanks for your time.

Just a heads up for anyonin the San Diego area that Lucky Seafood supermarket has Sopidilla fruit for sale for $6.49/pound.
I bought a few pounds but don’t know about the quality yet.

Whenever I buy from stores, I have hard time ripening them, so I suggest get partial ripe ones.

I was taught a great way to ripen these is to place in a brown paper bag and put in a cool oven. This works for big ol' Mamey Sapotes too! Just don't forget you have them there. I put a magnet on the stove to remind me not to turn on the oven until I remove the fruit.

I just had my last sapodilla of the year in a super long season from June to November. I’m going to be introducing a few late season chikos from Yucatán to cover the winter and spring months

Thanks Dragon, I’ll check them out if my market runs out.
I ate a couple fruit and they’re pretty good. These fruit are more pale in color and less sweet than Alano. This unknown variety has very little grit and has a butterscotch flavor. The fruit quality would have probably been better if they left it on the tree for another day or two but it’s still a good fruit. Here are some pictures

Don't they grow well for you in California? Here they're beautiful trees and set fruit like mad. They're very sweet with a real dessert quality. I love 'em!

Sapodilla grows well for us here but it is a slow grower. We just recently planted a tree at the orchard so it will be many years before we get a good harvest. I used to not like the taste of Sapodillas but now I’m a huge fan of them.

You are going to be surprise how quick they grow after the first year. Production should start for you after the second the only problem in SoCal is to find cultivars to extend the season year round.

Frank, I’m encouraged by your statement. I’ll try to plant out a few different varieties to spread out the season.
Astronics1, that’s a beautiful potted plant you have. It’s just dripping with fruit. Aside from the tree we planted at the orchard, I would love a potted tree.
I’ve planted a few seeds to use as rootstock but I’ll keep a branch of the original seedling in case I get lucky.

I hope that's the same for me up here in NorCal. I have 4 different varieties from seed I planted in June. I have 3-4 leaves on each but they do seem to be growing, slowly. :)

Thank you Simon . I have 4 plants in the round and 4 in pots , like Frank said it slow grown for first two years but when it's take off will be double in one year
