Caimito Leaves looking curled
« on: March 14, 2017, 09:46:53 AM »

The trees has been doing a lot better than last year.
I think this leaves formed when the temperatures started to drop.

Could this be deficient in a particular nutrient?

My mature trees' leaves always look like that? They only have normal flat leaves during flowering season.

It could be cooler temperatures effecting the shape of the leaves as they mature.  The new leaves growing out now look normal and when they open, if they remain normal, it probably isn't due to an insect attack or micro-nutrient deficiency.  How often do you fertilize it and what do you use?  It looks like you have mulched it in the past, make sure that you keep about a 3 inch depth of mulch around the tree.  A good fertilizer with micro-nutrients and mulching will ensure the tree will be as vigorous as possible and suffers less from other stresses.  If the tree starts to do this again next winter, it may be just the cooler temperatures alone that cause the curling of the leaves.

My Caimito is too small to flower yet.  Marklee in San Diego has said that it flowers as the weather begins to cool, so perhaps he could shed some light on the subject.  Jacob13 posted this in the past and his Caimito flowered in February.  If we could get them to flower regularly in February here in California, we may have better luck getting them to fruit.

I don't know about CA but in my tiny corner of the Philippines where the trees are they start blooming November right until early March (whenever the dry cool season stops and summer takes over). November is usually when the monsoon rains stop but the weather remains cool for a few more months.

If it would have been cold-damage; it's a very small damage....
