Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Selling Dragon Fruit Cuttings
« on: October 11, 2018, 12:54:22 PM »
Recommendations for a top quality one that will self pollinate?  I’ve planted several that flower regularly but only rarely do I get a fruit.
The one true Self Fertile that is known is the Vietnamese white Dragon Fruit. Most have to be crossed pollinated

I've had fruit on a solitary American Beauty flower without hand pollinating. I did have a light out on it (time-lapsed the flower), which attracted some insects.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Freycinetia spp.
« on: October 01, 2018, 03:16:16 PM »
I was recently exposed to the Freycinetia genus (from Pandanaceae), and on reading a little further I gather that there are a few species that are edible. Freycinetia banksii (Kiekie) in particular, which can grow from subtropical to temperate climates.

Does anyone have any experience with these flowering Pandanus species? Growing, eating or otherwise? Are there other edible Freycinetia spp.? I'd like to grow some of the F. banksii... unfortunately I can't find anything outside of New Zealand, with no option for international shipping.

If anyone knows where to acquire seed or plants, any info would be appreciated.

I've heard of successful fruiting with a combination of 'Vincent' and 'Tomuri' in the FL panhandle, and know of vines planted about 3 or 4 years ago that are alive and well in Gainesville (on the border of zone 8/9) but have yet to hear if they've produced fruit.
