Tropical Fruit Discussion / Cheena
« on: August 27, 2022, 05:19:21 PM »
Since Cheena is a hybrid, what kind of consistency in superior fruit can one expect?  Are all Cheena going to taste similar or is there variability?
Who likes them?  Should I graft one or plant seed?  Who sells a superior grafted one?  Hmmmm, I wonder if a Cheena rootstock topped with a Chempedak scion would succeed in Florida?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fiberless mango ?
« on: July 19, 2021, 07:58:05 PM »
Many low fiber mangos are called, misleadingly, fiberless.  My sweet tart really is fiberless and Young too, I don’t detect fiber in that one .  But others like Valencia pride, Beverly, coconut cream have a little fiber but are still called fiberless .  As far as “no” fiber mangos, what top tier mango is really fiberless as a sweet tart (as a standard to go by)?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Any avocados fruiting September-December?
« on: September 28, 2020, 02:24:24 PM »
My Day avocado just finished fruiting and my Choquette and Monroe don’t get ripe until December or so.  Can anyone experienced recommend a top notch cultivar that fruits now?  Oily, creamy preferred. Thanks.

I just wanted to warn others by relating my experience buying seeds from Mexico.   I had USDA labels, paperwork, and USPS tracking numbers for 2 packages of annona seeds from 2 different senders.  After 5 months, trips to the post office, multiple contacts to U.S. Customs and border patrol. USCBP lied to me and claimed that the packages were incorrectly addressed and attempted deliveries failed.  I have a photo of the CORRECTLY addressed package prior to shipment.  I’ve had more success having seeds mailed from halfway around the world by regular mail. Watch out!

Have mango scions to trade  & jakfruit....coconut cream, sweet tart, Spirit of ‘76, & red morning, j31, golden pillow, black gold x tabouey, Redlands White sapote...also let me know what mango scions you might have.

There are several mango trees popping up under my bigger mangos.  Mostly Glenn...thought about getting some scions for them and veneer grafting.  They, of course are not in full sun.  How do you think they would do?  My atemoya grafts need sun.  Not sure about mango.   Also have some avocados popping up also ..graftable?

Opinions....if you have tried good examples of each. Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Ross sapote grown from seed
« on: April 25, 2019, 11:35:50 AM »
I have two Ross sapote seedlings and have failed at grafting them.  I am considering just planting and hope I get something good.  What do you think?  Has anyone done this?

I want to know the difference in the growth habits of an atemoya grafted to the sugar apple, vs. cherimoya vs. atemoya seedlings.  I only had available some red sugar apples so that’s what I used.  What can I expect? Thanks.....

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Avocado cultivars for spring and summer ?
« on: February 20, 2019, 02:03:04 PM »
What about avocado cultivars for January-July?  I have a Day ( July-October) a Choquette and Monroe (November, December) so there are months without any.  What are some good oily types during this season?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Website not secure!
« on: February 01, 2019, 08:45:44 AM »
Why do I always see this?  In red letters no less.  Can this be repaired?  “Well, of course it can”,you say.  I mean, will someone fix it?

This red sugar Apple finally picked and eaten. 1 pound 6 ounces. I was worried it would only be big and not that great tasting, but it was juicy, very sweet and wonderful. One of the best fruits you can eat...and grow.

I would like to know the best tropical fruit markets on Oahu and Hawaii....relatives will be visiting.  Thanks

So I have a big Beverly mango (similar to Edward in flavor ).  Most fruit on the tree have little anthracnose til they ripen.  Then it comes fast.  I would like to know how to kill it or retard it if I pick the fruit before it Develops the anthracnose.  I want to send some to friends and relatives as well so don't want anthracnose developing en route.  I have read some about hot water dipping treatment.  Anyone with any experience?  Temperature of the water ...time?

19
Most of the leaves on this seedling have two or three lobes vs. the normal leaf shape.  Does anyone have an explanation ?  From an excellent tasting, no latex,  but unknown cultivar.  It was also the only seed to germinate out of 40 I left in the fridge for too long.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / J33 jakfruit ... why not available ?
« on: February 11, 2017, 08:58:22 AM »
Just curious why the most popular jakfruit, j33 or tekam yellow, in Malaysia, isn't available here?

21
Has someone tried and can compare these two jakfruits ?  I have the golden pillow, j31, dang suria (red morning) and a tabouey x black gold.  Wondering if the thong prasert would add variety or do I already have something similar?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pineapple-white jade. Tasting comments
« on: April 04, 2016, 08:16:07 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has had the fruit on these.  Mine are fruiting size but not producing yet.  They have an attractive red stripe down the center of the leaf which is different than my storebought pineapple top ones.  Maybe I'll see something this summer. Rusty

23
My mango trees were in full bloom and all were retaining small mango fruit except for the coconut cream.  I don't see any.  Why ?
