I want to try root in but with an airstone. I have read accounts of even cut roses being rooted like this without any hormone(they hardly ever root in water) I think the air is what makes it so successful. I saw this trick initially from cannabis cultivators ha ha

My plan is to get a small fish tank with two airstones running in the bottom then make a lid that can hold the cuttings upright in the water.

How thick branches do you think? I also want to try with pitangatuba as I only have one plant and that is scary.

Only as an ornamental. It is very popular in botanical gardens because they are so strange looking with all the sausages hanging in mid air. I put sausage tree in same league with cannonball tree, also very strange looking and wonderful to look at, but strictly ornamental.

Agree with Oscar it is indigenous to this country and I have never heard it used as even a famine crop only ornamental and traditionally medicinal.

I got seeds of Syzygium caryophyllatum a few years ago and have always thought this was the lone survivor but I've seen lots of species look similar so I always have this doubt. Can anyone confirm this as Syzygium caryophyllatum or have i been duped and caring for a privet last 2 or so years ;D

Sunny why so much aggression?
Typically forums like these work better when people are friendly and cordial. Just because you disagree doesnt mean one needs to descend to immature comments.
You can be better than that dude ;)
I don't know always the kind of questions and way of thinking of forum member member Sunny remind me of previous forum member Bangkok, merely coincidence?
;D ;D ha ha ha I honestly thought the exact same thing!!!

They are growing durian on Trellis

I think there is also a clear distinction between Will it fruit and will it be productive e.g. like citrus are

How did countries get this plant overseas?

I dont think there is even one kratom plant in my whole country so I have no chance of buying it but I also read to try from seeds is mostly pointless and wont work :(

Sunflowers are by far my favorite as they are nice and nutty also with a nice texture:)

Folks shouldn’t take it personal when we (USA members) refuse to send seeds or scions overseas. We know from experience of the delays and the seizures. Too much of a hassle for something we have no control

True JF for quite a few countries now , forget Africa in general ( don't take this personal my African friends ) , I don't even wanna mention Brazil .....Portugal is also becoming a problem . And to the USA unless you're lucky or have the USDA permit .

Most of us Africans have been dealing with this for years in S.A particularly things get lost all the time unless couriered.
Iv always seen any purchase I make as only a 50% chance of receiving and not to blame seller for that. If you order with that mindset its not as heartbreaking when it never arrives!

61
Thanks I will try grafting!
Glad you are spreading these beauties around they really are attractive and I cant wait to try the fruit :)

62
These guys grow pretty fast and are some of the most beautiful cacti seedlings I've ever had! Mine have beautiful red new spines:) think I got seeds from you a year or two ago

Any idea how big these would need to be to flower?
I'm impatient so maybe I need to try graft onto something ha ha.

63
Interested!
How does this fruit taste?

As an international I wouldnt mind either way but thought I would add my 2c.

Do you really think having sub-forums would stop internationals posting for sale stuff in the American sub forum?

Even now you get tropical offers in temperate, trades in main forum, citrus in main forum, temperate in main forum. Many people dont really read ha ha.

Another thought is that this Buy,Sell,Trade-forum isn't all that busy already. Wouldn't it be dead if separated? For some reason it seems that postings build on one another and the more stuff that gets posted the more stuff will keep getting posted if you see my meaning. Look at the Veg buy, sell, trade sub-forum (dead dead dead) would be better to have a sub-forum for all edible plant sales IMO.

Maybe if they do that have a sub-forum for all edibles(Citrus, tropical, temperate veg and herb) but then have a American and unamerican version?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Feijoa flowering (greenhouse)
« on: February 01, 2018, 02:12:28 PM »
Our feijoa flowers no problem even in an area that never goes below 0C they don't need anything near to what cherries etc need as those struggle in the same area.
Not sure how much cold exactly they need but I'm sure it's less than many temperates

67
Was just wondering about this recently is there something like the opposite of a greenhouse?
There's a few fruits such as cloud berry that I wonder if there are ways to grow in places that get 30C+ summers?

Obviously it would be a pain just like tropical in areas that get frost but that's part of the fun right:)

Can neighbours (South Africa) get a postage discount? ;)

Man I have been to Zim before, have relations there and never ever found this fruit or even the plant :( any idea where in Zim these are found?

Tropical Vegetables and Other Edibles / Re: Your secret soil ingredients
« on: January 25, 2018, 02:26:46 AM »
Im Not sure about amending sugar sand but for really crappy clay I found annuals that grow fast and have a lot of biomass then just chop it up and rework into the soil after a few seasons the ground is fertile and beautiful :) No amendment has been as good for me as this process!

My wife hates the messy look but I don't remove weeds leaf litter etc from my beds just dig it in or let it rest as mulch I even chuck my old fruit peels etc into my beds and my plants grow very very well without compost. If you have trees in the bed just make sure all the litter doesn't touch the trunk. Some people may be against this and have more sterile beds but I love this method:)

Even old cardboard boxxes I rip up and throw into the beds

Centella asiatica mats and spreads nice and tight and is also attractive with its fleshy rounded bright green leaves.
Also it is hardly a staple but it is edible with great tonic benifits.

I think it like moist areas but i have seen it very happy in semi moist forested areas and the ones under my tap only do slightly better than those along the skirting of my house

Even emailed a large farm that grows them commercially for the nuts and no replies :'(

Tropical Vegetables and Other Edibles / Agave americana - Pulque
« on: January 19, 2018, 12:45:54 AM »
Anyone ever try making this?
and if so please share details of the process(I googled and it explains but not a step by step just in general)

The plant is naturalised here and is pretty common.

This lightly alcoholic beverage is apparantly an aquired taste but healthy and a potent probiotic :)
