Has anybody tried growing this in Florida? How does it compare to regular abiu?

I hear they are more cold tolerant, than Abiu and tastes like condensed milk...top notch fruit and hard to find 8)

Yeah that's what caught my eye as well a fruit that is similar to abiu but cold hardy to 25, that sounds like a great fruit to grow in Florida. If you hear of any seed sources please let me know. ;)

Same here. ;D This specie should fruit very well in the subtropics 8) I'm also on the hunt for this sp...will let you know, if I find any. :)

Helton's a real good guy, and it's amazing all the work he's doing. We've been exchanging seeds for quite some time and he sends real good quality seeds.

I have a few abiurana seedlings. They are more or less four years old and approximately five (5) to six (6) feet tall. I plan to plant a couple of them in the ground. I may trade or sell at least one tree to a Florida collector willing to pick up the tree in Fort Myers.
When I saw the video, it reminded me of being inside that nursery and walking all over Helton's property. It was worth the effort to visit one of the biggest collections of rare fruits in Brasil. Meeting Helton and his wife and having lunch with them was ice on the cake!

Nice, mine is all the way up to about ten inches. Expecting flowers by August 2030.

Abiurana is a generic name, many species for similar but very different fruits!

I have the same fruit tree. Pretty sure that Ken has misidentified it as Pouteria bullata. It's actually a type of Pouteria torta.

If Helton has it correctly labeled as bullata, then probably mine is different, as i think it is torta. But if Nelesedulis is correct, then bullata is not very good tasting, and the one i have is quite good. Don't know about its cold tolerance.

For me it is difficult to evaluate the photo of the site, I was on an expedition and we found Pouteria Bullata, it has wavy leaves, well marked, brown flowers, rust color, the fruit darkens quickly, the pulp is a bit dry with large seed, a light taste of milk and sugar.
By the photo I think it is a Regular Pouteria Torta, but as I said, ABIURANA is a generic name here in Brazil, several pouterias we use this name, Guapeva, Guapeba, Bapeba, Bapeva ... all this generates doubts giant!
I'm just saying this to friend, do not buy one kind and get another!
