I purchased Vittelaria paradoxa from Oscar Jaitt / Fruit's Lover. Probably the worst seller I ever dealled with. He shipped the seeds in normal courier which took more than two months to arrive. Seeds arrived totally roten. When you are a pro you know these species need to be planted fastly and cannot travel for a while (like clove, cocoa, etc..) Asked for refund, no news.

I 'll have some trees for sale in some weeks of Aigina variety, but only greek ones, grafted on selected variety high dried conditions resistant . Pistachio grafting success is very low (45-60%)..

Hello,

It mainly depends of your location and what you are looking for.

Usually american varieties are more productive and shell is also more open. But taste is really poor. Iranian and greek varieties are well adapted to dry area, they do not need much water and are the most tasty. I grow Aigina variety the greek AOP and have planted in another area more wet Peter and Kerman plants I got from Italy, less tasty in my opinion.

I am from Greece and have some olive trees. I have been in Reunion island where they grow as ornemental trees olive trees. Reunion island is one of the most rainy region in the world. The most important is to give a well drained soil..

Hi,

I have 150 trees and produce in Greece pistachios. Grafting helps to give you fruits sooner and open shells. For pistachios it is very important to graft and also to have more female than male as the ratio is 1 male for 30 female...

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Lychee disease, what do I do wrong??

Hello.

First thank you for all your answers.

I live in Athens. I should check the pH but as you told it is highly possible that the alkalinity is too high, BUT I just transplanted the airlayers this spring 2013, so the impact of the calcium ions is not too high now I suppose.

I used a max of perlite+ camellia substrate (inc. peat moss)+ pumice (+ pumice for the bottom)+ soil from garden + pine leaves on the top as a mulch.

The plants are now in a greeenhouse since 2 months around, but they were outside exposed to full sun and wind all the summer (with 30-35°C everyday). Also in order to balance these dry conditions I (over?)water them everyday. I think also that the plants have not produced enough roots.

Do you know what NPK is required for Lychee?
Should I put them outside now, as this is the rainy season (rain everyday with min 20°C day /  min12°C night) without wind?

I will graft in few days new varieties of mango. I would ask the ones who have training in mango grafting if it is better after grafting to let the trees in direct sunshine or to put them in a shady place? (I have to precise that the scions will travel for some days before arriving)!

Thank you all, Jonas

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Fresh Nutmeg seeds for sale
« on: June 01, 2013, 12:42:39 PM »
I think I bought from the same seller (he is on ebay and has a website).

I received seeds after 1 month, totaly dried or roten. It is cheap and he sells large quantity, but it is no use, as the quality is not there.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: How Long Does Mango Scions Lasting?

Do you remove the petiols or do you let them in place? Do you also prepare the scions on the tree like 1-2 weeks before or it is not used?

24
I would like to know what experience you have with mango scions sent by post. How long they have traveled and what about the quality at arrival. Also how they were packaged (in plastic, wet paper, parafilm,...)?

Finally, do you think they can travel, packaged in parafilm, during 8-12 days?

I will grow them in pot for the moment. Then I will put them in ground, but need money to buy an area where to grow them, probably in south of Peloponnese or in south islands.

I mix peat, ground soil, perlite, pumice, and compost.
