Any advice for a beginner watermelon grower?

I have MD2/Gold & those have serrated leaves & arenít as sweet. These Honeyglows donít & also have a slight mango flavor too 🤤

Hi if you had real MD2 pineapples they are sweet and very good and MD2 plants are smooth leaves no serrated leaves at all

Then I must have the gold. I thought they were the same

Tropical Vegetables and Other Edibles / Sweet potato 🍠 harvest
« on: January 27, 2019, 05:11:51 PM »
  pumpkin yam variety

Harvested another 20lbs of sweet potatoes on Friday the 25. Itís funny, I thought sweet potatoes only do well when itís hot outside but not the varieties I seemed to harvest this time of year compared to the other 20lbs of sweet potatoes grown during the hotter part of the year. The Omani Pink produced the most, & I also produced some pumpkin yams, Jersey Yellow, a Myanmar Purple, & a nice bit of Molokai purple.

Wow! Nice harvest!!

tree looks good. mine has that upright habit as well but less mass, im going to give it another season or two.  It seems that my soil is pretty much beach sand so it takes a little longer to get mine to that just right size no matter how hard I try. Should pay off for me once they go into production in that low nitrogen will mean less issues with jelly seed and less vegetative growth.

I believe calcium helps with jelly seed. & Good Luck with both of you with your CCandy trees! I just recently planted mine into the ground and also looking forward to tasting it soon hopefully.

Very interesting. Where did you find them? I would love to plant a few tops too. Last year I bought some Honey pineapples at Bravo market. Can't say if they would be the same. They tasted very good.

I actually came across them at the restaurant I work at. Iíve always seen the others but never the Honeyglows.. so I made sure to grab what I could 😁

Only our pickering is starting to show some blooms and very few at that. Fairchild zero. Honey Kiss zero (but hopeful since later season), PPK zero, Cocunt cream zero.

Patience.

I am not the right person to be saying this considering a checked out my trees sometime twice a day looking for a sign.  Interesting thins is the Mallika and Keith that I hardly looked at now have most flowers on them.  The other trees clearly are showing sign with swollen buds, a rouge young graft that flowered etc.  It has been a strange year but it appears that things are beginning to flower so hang in there, you could be posting an update singing a different tune this time next week.

Yes still very early!!

Hereís some of the recently planted trees that are already flowering despite only being planted about a week before Thanksgiving-
(A lot of others have had swollen buds & just havenít emerged especially for lack of rain/water.)

  (Florigon grafted w/ Rapoza)

  (Venus grafted w/ Glenn)

  (Phoenix)

  (Carrie)

   (Hatcher)

In order-

Best
ShweHintah
Guava
ButterCream
Venus
SweetTart
Kathy
Dot
Cac
Orange Essence

Others that would make my top 20 if I could only plant about 2 dozen trees-

Zinc, Zill 36-8(India), Coconut Cream, M4, Gary, Jehangar, Lemon Meringue, Pina Colada, Honey Kiss, & Fruit Punch.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: 2019 Mango season (Florida) flower stimuli
« on: December 20, 2018, 02:21:23 PM »

Got a few more days (nights) in the 50s coming up.
Should be good news for the upcoming season.

BTW, I guess now is a good time to start spraying some sulfur. (and maybe copper)

Copper for rain, sulfur for the cold weather..

Iíve found OMRI approved copper, is there an organic sulfur spray that is known by you more experienced growers? (Perez mango has had issues setting fruit on the first bloom years prior, Iíve never started spraying with copper or sulfur but hear all the time about how much it helps with fruit set)

I haven't seen any flowers on my trees.
Other than the known early varieties anyone seeing anything?

Perez Mango usually starts flowering at the first sign of cold usually at the end of October every year.. Iím hoping this year will it will set an early crop

Mango trees arenít best suited for air layering. They need a tap root or they eventually die from lack there of from my understanding and thatís why mango trees are grafted rather than air layered.

I want to know if I can grow Navaho blackberries or kiwi in zone 10b? Thanks, everybody!

Should grow fine. I grow Navaho & Von Blackberries with no issues. Just watch younger plants, I lost a Triple Crown variety during one of our recent brutal summers.

(Sorry itís not the best, I probably shouldíve taken a photo of the whole fruit before I cut into it)

21
I enjoyed Buttercream WAY more than M4. (Though Iím only going off of one tasting evaluation). Agree with SweetTart. & Fruit Punch is good... but Iíve found some more of the newer varieties that I enjoyed most this year like ButterCream, Him Sagar, & Guava.

What made u said that u rnjoyed buttercream more than m4?

Title of this post said ďFlavor BombsĒ & to me ButterCream fit that more than the M4.

When Ordering Kauai White Sugarloaf Pineapple from Jude.... on the order page there is a spot you can leave a message before placing an order..... if you plan to grow from the crown you need to leave a note saying for them to not break the crowns cause you plan to grow them. when she goes out she will look for pineapples that are ripe and have smaller crowns on them so they will fit in the shipping box. they mite be a little bent but should still grow great

she does ship them in small boxes  to save on shipping cost i would guess

I meant to ask Jude to do this but thought it wouldíve arrived intact from the videos on YouTube of othersí previous orders. No biggie as Rob stated that theyíll still grow back, lesson learned.. though I agree with Mark, if Iím paying $60 for a single pineapple I would rather they twist the top off for both to easily fit rather than cut it.
