Citrus General Discussion / Lime ID help Label says Tohai
« on: December 29, 2017, 02:37:37 PM »
I began caring for a subtropical fruit orchard planted by a rare fruit grower 5-7 years ago. Most all tree's are labeled. The orchard was in serious decline after not being watered for 2 years of drought.
I started taking care in September 2016 and am starting to see a good crop of fruits holding and ripening .
One is pictured below and labeled TOHAI. I've never heard of it. It's acidic but not bitter and 1 seed in the fruits I cut open. It's pictured next to a Bearrs lime for color contrast. Note the heart shaped characteristic like the "Valentine" when cut open. Anyone heard of this Lime?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Zone Pushing the Sapote Family
« on: December 15, 2014, 02:23:58 PM »
While unrelated in plant taxonomy I wanted to group the Sapote's I am growing in one thread to talk about how these plants do when pushing their growing zones.
Those in similar climates please share your observations with growing these.
White Sapote "Casimiroa Edulis" is the most common "Sapote" in the area and still unknown and unavailable unless you know someone with a tree. These grow well here and have survived the freeze of the century in 1990 , in a cold air basin.

Here is my Black Sapote "Diospyrus Nigra" on the left and Lucuma " Pouteria Lucuma" on the right
They overwintered well outside last year during a mild winter.

Here are seedlings from this year Green Sapote " Pouteria Viridis" on top
Canistel "Pouteria Campechiani" in the middle
Sapodilla "Manilkara Zapota" on the bottom
The Canistel took a few months to germinate
