Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: TransAtlantic Bare-root Mango trip
« on: April 29, 2018, 02:54:22 AM »
In a month I will take mango trees across the great water, bare root.  (Florida to West Africa). Never done this before. Transit time will be about 48 hours from bare root to replanting so I don't expect any but am open to suggestions from those with experience.  Raining season is just starting and I am relying on it (no irrigation).  The big vision begins...

What supplements have you decided to give them after their initial shock from being bare rooted? Iíve seen others on here use & suggest SuperThrive. (I use RealGrowersRecharge with very high recovery and success rate, I highly highly recommend it)

Before you germinate the Jaboticaba seeds, do you let the seeds dry out or do you plant them fresh like you would cocao seeds?

How long have you had it? And is it in a pot/container? & if so what size?

Iíve removed them from the mother plant when they were still young barely breaking soil for the first time. The sizes you have them at should have them bounce back quicker than the size I take them!

Sounds more of a marketing strategy to appeal more to the public. I donít like name changes either (like Fairchild Ruby/J12/Super Julie) but I understand why whether it be because of confusion of similarities in names or to better market other varieties.
Iím still going to call it Seacrest 😆 just like I call ďSuper JulieĒ J12 still.. & taste is definitely different for each person.. some have it in there top 10, I personally would put it in the pile of just another okay mango that would hold me over if there werenít other varieties of my top favorites available.

Wasnít expecting anything else to flower but seen my Venus flowering again. Hoping these panicles donít get destroyed by powdery mildew like all the flowers before

Duncan, Florigon, Maha, Sweet Tart, & Pickering are the first to come to mind.. (Alex recommended these to me)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Dot mango dying in SoCal

Hereís a picture of my small DOT graft. It bloomed this year and is holding small fruit. The graft is very small so Iíll probably remove all the fruit so the graft doesnít die back.

Thatís awesome!! Love your projects simon 😁

Dwarf cavendish? They are ideal for pots.

Yes, I also have dwarf cavendish in a pot.. as a matter of fact all my bananas in my collection are in pots and do well as long as theyíre watered and fertilized.. my truly tiny didnít start flowering until I gave it high  potassium fertilizer.

Yes I have a TrulyTiny banana in a pot that is starting to flower to make bananas... Iíll try and post a pic if I get around to my parents house

You can lop it off now. It looks like it is pushing flowers though.

Thank you Jeff! Funny I thought the same thing at first but I gave the tree a major prune & wasnít expecting it to flower, just send out vegetative growth.

Rapoza scion seems to have taken and already flushed.. is it too early to cut off the branch I side cleft grafted onto? Going to try and use the piece I cut off as more budwood for grafting as it looks like the perfect stage to take for grafting.. right?

Spoke to someone at Zills and was told that they are going to release a mango by the name of Orange Sorbet. Is this totally different than Orange Sherbet?

No itís the exact same. (G-32, Orange Sherbet, Orange Sorbet)
