Very interesting. Where did you find them? I would love to plant a few tops too. Last year I bought some Honey pineapples at Bravo market. Can't say if they would be the same. They tasted very good.

Brian, was it me? I found out that there are two types of variegated Minneola a few years ago. I guess the one with two tone leaves (green-yellow) is a sport from the three tone (white-yellow-green) one. I saw the 15 gallon trees for sale in our HD and Lowe's 3 years ago and I thought it was odd. The new grows was variegated green-yellow and the fruits looked like a regular Minneola. I was looking for one in 3 gallon for awhile and couldn't find it neither the info online. Last year one of my trees grew the sport and I saw the thread on the other forum about the Harri's trees with the pictures. So, apparently I was the only one who saw this trees in production with different looking fruits and warned people. I also saw the picture you posted. The sport limb produced the fruit and I have the different looking fruits on my tree, so I will call it a Cocktail Minneola tree. )) However, the fruit without stripes doesn't look like the one on your picture. It doesn't have the 'neck' and is bigger in size.

One was sugar sweet with no other flavor and the other one had a sweet lemonade like flavor which I liked more. Had anyone else tasted one with the lemonade flavor?You really should get ahold of some Sugar Dragon variety. I personally havnt tried the new, larger yellow fruits that have started showing up recently, but I know I wasn't a fan of the original yellow Megalanthus. It wasn't its sugar content either that turned me off, in fact, it was almost the opposite. To me, Megalanthus yellow tastes almost entirely of sugar, like eating old time rock candy, pure sweet but no other flavor. I do know some of the darker reds and magentas are getting pushed into high sugar production, but for me its not all about sweet. Add a bit of fruity flavor to that, though , and now we're talking.
Having said that, Im hoping I can get a chance to check out that new yellow variety sometime soon to I can give an honest, personal, comparison.
Its just sugar flavor again.
I had some sugar bomb american beauties here that were as sweet as the yellows plus a nice grape floral rose flavor. Excellent. I prefer that any day over the giant yellow. The fruits are larger and easier to grow too.

I like them both and it will be hard for me to chose between them. Here is my Yellow. The fruits are bigger then Red. I put them in a frig and forgot for nearly a month and they were still good when I found them. The Red ones would be spoiled.

I love the Meiwa kumquats, they are sweet. My tree is loaded with fruits and this is a third crop of this year. Never tasted the Changshu though.

The Malaysian magenta is a pretty damn good guava when picked in the winter in so cal. Your Thai looks even more appealing. I am curious about taste. Im not a big fan of soft guavas but the deep red color has piqued my interest.
xshen, I can't compare them yet because the Malaysian didn't fruit, hopefully next year. The taste of my Thai red is pretty good. It's nice sweet and creamy, like you are eating fruit flavored yogurt. It's hard to explain. Let's say, when I eat one, I want MORE.
I bet the ice cream made from this guava would be delicious.

Dolores seedless red only one around
Thai Cream is my late guava in November December

That's the way to chose the best ones you like. I have maybe 10 or so, not all of them fruited yet.

JF, one day I will have to chose which ones are the best for me and which ones will have to go. So far there is only one that I don't really like but I gave it one more year and I will try to graft better varieties on it. Since my grafting skills are not perfect yet I cannot afford buying the scions of superior varieties and waste them. Guava is not easy to graft or root. Seeds are the easiest but unfortunately you don't sell them. I wish I could taste your best guavas.
We don't have these varieties here in FL.

You probably have the other close variety called Malaysian. I have two, small seedling and 8' tall air-layer I think. Didn't get any fruit from either of them. Hopefully, next year, so I can compare the fruits and the taste.

Do you have disease issues with guavas in Ocala? I would like to plant them here in St. Pete, but have heard that guavas are hard to care for because of high humidity and abundance of insects.
Thanks. Mine are all in containers. Last year I had some issues with white flies but they were almost everywhere. This year no problem at all. I don't know about the fruit fly in your area but here I don't have them. I have to use organza bags because of bags and lizards are eating them here and there.

No. I started my pineapples from store bought tops 7 years ago. They were not much smaller and I had big pineapples from the same plant next year and next. The mother plant will produce new plants and they will give you normal size fruit. Some of my pineapples were smaller this year but they were the sweetest and since I have many of them I don't mind.

You can leave two growing and they will fruit at the same time. I had three fruits in one container.
