Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Can I grow Navaho blackberries in zone 10b?
« on: November 05, 2018, 09:45:00 AM »
I want to know if I can grow Navaho blackberries or kiwi in zone 10b? Thanks, everybody!

Should grow fine. I grow Navaho & Von Blackberries with no issues. Just watch younger plants, I lost a Triple Crown variety during one of our recent brutal summers.

Looking for a White Sapote, anyone know someone or somewhere that sells them?

Sweet potatoes are easy to grow  in South Florida ,but doing so with out bugs eating holes in them...seems difficult...

I’m growing several varieties with ease

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Photo of an M4 mango needed
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:55:24 PM »

(Sorry it’s not the best, I probably should’ve taken a photo of the whole fruit before I cut into it)

I enjoyed Buttercream WAY more than M4. (Though I’m only going off of one tasting evaluation). Agree with SweetTart. & Fruit Punch is good... but I’ve found some more of the newer varieties that I enjoyed most this year like ButterCream, Him Sagar, & Guava.

What made u said that u rnjoyed buttercream more than m4?

Title of this post said “Flavor Bombs” & to me ButterCream fit that more than the M4.

How do Kauai Sugarloaf & White Jade pineapples compare in flavor? Quite similar/slight differences?

When Ordering Kauai White Sugarloaf Pineapple from Jude.... on the order page there is a spot you can leave a message before placing an order..... if you plan to grow from the crown you need to leave a note saying for them to not break the crowns cause you plan to grow them. when she goes out she will look for pineapples that are ripe and have smaller crowns on them so they will fit in the shipping box. they mite be a little bent but should still grow great

she does ship them in small boxes  to save on shipping cost i would guess

I meant to ask Jude to do this but thought it would’ve arrived intact from the videos on YouTube of others’ previous orders. No biggie as Rob stated that they’ll still grow back, lesson learned.. though I agree with Mark, if I’m paying $60 for a single pineapple I would rather they twist the top off for both to easily fit rather than cut it.

You can always place an order with Jude and get a fruit and a top...

Did so recently as I purchased Kona Sugarloaf pineapple starts thinking they were the same as the Kauai Sugarloaf.
Man that pineapple was delicious 🤤

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: 36-8 Mango

The coconut flavor was pretty pronounced.  My wife also immediately said coconut.  Also a mild indian flavor in the background and some sweet/tartness.   Seed is very large mono.

Im no mango expert but this was one of the better ones I've tried.

This post is 100% spot on! & To be quite honest it blew the OS out of the water for a well rounded mango- (complex taste, shelf life, & size). Tried the OS a little over ripe in all fairness but even still 36-8 seems like it’ll be more desirable in certain aspects.. I think it’s a keeper, anyone know how resistant it is to diseases?

Zill 80 is parent, which is from Kent...probably not good.  What I have seen in past years was a short shelf life and dirty fruit.  Not sure how it would stand up in ciastal areas but I have my doubts...

Again , its not released so the anticipation of planting one should be shelved for now.

Thank You. I’m not even thinking about it since it’s not released.. if anything I’ll pick up a Coconut Cream & eat with another resinous mango like Kathy next season (worst come to worst haha). I did like the resinous flavor on this & Fruit Cocktail with 36-8 being my choice out of the samples I tried

Waren, I called Zills (nursery, not fruit stand) and they have boat load of these for sale to evaluate at $2/lb.

To be quite honest, When I found out they were $2/lb I almost soiled myself in front of everyone in the office 🤣 Also in my excitement over OS I skipped out on Juliette they also had for sale (and even forgot to mention it on varieties they had lol)

142
Thanks for the video. has anyone else tried this?

the one I had was not watery, not sure why anyone would say "watery" to a mango, it should be called Juicy, no?

I’ve had mangos that were watery and washed out in flavor this season & this was not one. As for 36-8, the flavor is awesome!! Super sweet (almost coconut/pineapple like taste like a Coconut Cream) with an incredible resinous aftertaste (that reminds me of Rosa mango). Great flavor combinations! & it was very juicy!!! Here’s the beauty I just enjoyed-

When you were at ZHPP, did anyone happen to say whether they would have any Cotton Candy mangos available anytime soon???  That's one fruit I'd like to taste!

Didn’t see any this morning, & I forgot to ask 😓😣. Tons of crates of Orange Sherbet, half a crate of Van Dyke, & an almost full container of 36-8 (I think was the number).

« on: July 09, 2018, 02:36:21 PM »
So long story short, I was Harbor Freight and seen that they had backpack sprayers for $30 down from $60. I couldn’t pass it up as I was recommended it by Har a few months prior but I didn’t want to pay $60 for a sprayer.. turn into an early Birthday present for me but hopefully this post will help out someone else 😁

I live about 5 miles as the crow flies from the ocean between US1 and I95. Just came from a mango tasting at Pinders Nursery and loved the Coconut Cream, Cogshall and Maha Chanok.many varieties were not represented. So I like sweet mango flavor, tried Springfeld, ugh, too spicey, not sweet. Since I am wanting a small tree my choices are limited..

I agree with MangoCountry, if you like cogshall or Maha go with something you know you like know.. you can always top work or do some grafting when the trees get bigger if you choose you want to add more varieties but not anymore trees 🤓

What are you looking to add more to your season? (Early, Middle, or late?) What type flavor are you looking for? (Classic? Spicy? Sweet? Juicy? Peachy? Citrusy? Complex? Etc..) How far away from the coast do you live? (The further inland, the more disease & other pressures affect your trees & more disease resistant varieties will be more recommended.)
I recommend watching TrulyTropicals videos on choosing a mango tree. (Their are 4-5 if I’m not mistaken, 3 for sure lol)
