OK to start fertilizing in South Florida?
« on: February 10, 2018, 04:14:24 PM »

Over the last two weeks, I have seen many of my mango and sapodilla trees push new growth. I am wondering if it is time already to start feeding nitrogen to some of the younger trees?   Or, should I wait until April?

I already did my yard. If trees are already pushing, no reason not to.

I put down a bag of 8-3-9 this morning. For young trees that are not yet fruiting, no real reason not to.

In normal years, I've started fertilizing in March. But the 10-day forecast shows temps in the 80's from here on out, and many of my trees have switched into growth mode. So, now is probably a good time to start with N-containing fertilizers (for those trees that like nitrogen). I just fertilized today myself. I did my non-N containing mixes a few weeks ago.
