Looking for nursery recommendations in Puerto Rico
« on: May 19, 2018, 12:07:38 AM »
Hi comrades I have a nursery in Australia and have a guy contacting me to get plants sent from here to Puerto Rico. He is moving to Puerto Rico in two weeks.  I mentioned to him that a lot of fruit trees were  available in Puerto Rico all ready.

Anyway I know the hurricane took out a lot of infrastructure but I was wondering what nurseries are open? Does any one have any recommendations? Even individual people who may be able to sell trees to establish an orchard...

Thanks for any advice

Try Jardines Eneida nursery. Don't know how they fared after hurricane, but was large nursery with good selection of fruits.

Sending plants from here to there might be too much hassle. Maybe check what local nurseries don't have much of. Seeds of good Asian species that are ok as seedlings like Durios, better types of mangosteens, top jacks and chempas, kwai muk, keladang, Asian Garcias like dulcis, enkala, safu, dabai etc would work. Maybe a few improved American species like good abiu, giant Mossman black sapote and sweet flavicarpa passionfruit would be appreciated and they go fine from seeds. Even a few natives like blushwood, davidson plum, kakadu plum, backhousia, diploglottis, black apple,mt white lime could be welcomed.

Jardines Eneida is open but with very few fruit trees for sale. In Montoso Garden you have to contact Bryan because his son who attended the Garden went to Ca. Govhardan Garden is not selling trees right now. In Gurabo there is a Nursery that is open and another one in the Jardin Botanico de Caguas. In Nebai they are liquidating the trees to close it.

I am the person he made the post for. I will be in Puerto Rico May 30th, so if anyone has any plants I could purchase and have shipped there feel free to message me. I am interested in seeds as well, but I've found websites such as fruit lovers, tradewindsfruit, guayacu seeds, and many other places with seeds so It's not a high priority. I am most interested in these plant varieties if anyone has them for sale.

Theobroma(looking for grandiflorum and bicolor, or any other harder to find varieties)
Acai palms
Artocarpus varieties
Jaboticaba varieties
Inga varieties.

Thanks again for posting this for me!

Inga forests like weeds in Puerto Rico.

Gurabo and Caguas are quite close to Maunabo, Jardines Eneida and Montoso Garden are further away, I also know another person who sells fruit trees in Las Marias.

Acai is pretty much useless due to its very thin pulp. Doable with Brazilian made machine for acai processing.
