Thai seeds indentification
« on: October 18, 2012, 06:51:24 PM »
A friend of mine got some seeds from Thailand and he doesn't know which species they belong to. I have some clues, but not 100% sure. What do you think?

From Thailand, I'd say #4=Sugar apple seeds. Atemoyas such as PP/Nuathong have bigger, flatter and more uniform seeds

#2 look like Jackfruit seeds, rotten or germinating.

Not so sure I agree with the Canarium sp.; the ridges appear few and too smooth - now; I have not had in hands more than a couple of Canarium species but they did look the same; http://postimage.org/image/u22k7chp1/. Could be ovatum perhaps which have smoother ridges.
Agree on the Momordica sp., and the annona seeds are so easy to identify that a close up would solve that question.
Felipe - sow the seeds and based on the seedlings at least the genus should be possible for all of them...

Felipe seems pretty close but we can say jackfruit is 2,canarium is 1,sugar apple is 4,bitter melon is 5 but 3 doesn't quite look right for mangosteen but probably is.The 'skin' of 3 is not right for G.dulcis.

#3 is not mangosteen for sure. The resolution of the picture is pretty low, so this makes it even harder. Maybe #3 could even be santol out of the testa?

Soren, I don't have the seeds, but a friend in Spain. I will tell him to sow this damn seeds, so that we can see leaves... LOL

I can't be of much help other than to agree strongly on the annona #4 and to cast a strong negative vote on #3 being mangosteen
