Whats interesting is that even the "Mother of all mangoes" in this chart , the Mulgoba may not be a Mulgoba :

THE MYSTERY OF THE MULGOBA:

http://www.google.com.do/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CFcQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fshs.org%2FProceedings%2FPassword%2520Protected%2F1960%2520Vol.%252073%2F309-311%2520(WOLFE)1.pdf&ei=uOnIT8rpIKbv6AGCuN0K&usg=AFQjCNHiMhNQrGOaraMzf1AVELZzRlb_qw&sig2=otzVogKg5sDOwbwYcu4p7Q

That is a very interesting article that I think may deserve a post of its own. Would you mind if I split it to its own topic?

Has anyone here tasted both the Mulgoa and the Mulgoba?

I tend to subscribe to the theory that it was a mis-labelled Mulgoa and was killed below the graft in the 1894-95 freeze, and the rootstock that sprouted up is what got named 'Mulgoba'.

I think the rootstock theory seems the most plausible.  Makes sense to me.

I top worked a scion of the Mulgoba onto my Nam Doc Mai.  I tried it at the F&S park a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

Mulgoba = mother of Haden then Haden seems to be seedling mother (or half genetic pollination contributor) of most Florida variety mangoes.

Mulgoba was the mother of Haden but Turpentine was the father.  ;)

Mulgoa, or Mulgoba, i wouldn't pay much attention to slight spelling differences. We are dealing with different parts of India where they have different pronounciations, different words, and very often even totally different alphabets. The word is also probably transliterated from an Indian dialect into English alphabet, which complicates matters even more as to how spell it. Also spelling errors often occur in literature. For example, in this very article there is mention of Porto Rico. Does that mean there are two different islands, one called Porto and the other Puerto Rico?
