Are you still looking for seeds?

Congratulations! That is beautiful. Perhaps the fruit will have better flavor in subsequent crops?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pruning Annona Reticulata?
« on: March 12, 2021, 07:58:01 PM »
What I noticed about reticulatas is that they drop their leaves completely around May. Quickly refoliate (if that's a word) after.
Stripping before April often seemed like a waste so I stopped. I'll strip them in April and trim then.

I think their dormancy is different, if you strip them in let's say december they seemed to grow back but if you do it in February they'll stay like that for a while.

My observation based on the last few years of growing them and seeing them across yards in Broward.

This is very helpful and I want to thank you for sharing your experience.
3 weeks ago I pruned and stripped the leaves of all our Annonas and since then everything has put out beautiful new growth except our San Pablo custard apple. It is still bare and I was starting to get a little worried. Hopefully it comes back  :-\

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pruning Annona Reticulata?
« on: March 12, 2021, 07:25:10 AM »
Can we treat Annona Reticulata the same as Squamosa and Atemoya by pruning branches by 1/3 to 1/2 and stripping leaves to encourage new branching?
Or should Reticulata be managed differently?

Thanks!

Is it ok to foliar feed mango with open flowers?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Dragon fruit in ground vs pots (SE Florida)
« on: January 02, 2021, 12:37:22 PM »
We're new to dragon fruit growing and see so many people keep them in pots. Is it not good to just put them in the ground? We would be growing in zone 10a SE Florida.

In my experience I have noticed that sulfur does not wash off very easily. After several rainy days the powdery sulfur residue was still present on the leaves.
Just wanted to point that out.

Once they started involving themselves in politics I promptly quit buying B&J. Not a fan of Blue Balls ice cream. Mayfield however, is delicious.

It only gets better!
The second year my Lisa fruit improved dramatically.
Did you hand-pollinate?  (Or as Rob would say, "What does that have to do with anything?" ;))

LOL. Yes and we used Ilama pollen on these two.

So far we are a little disappointed with Ilama. It is not as sweet as I hoped. I like very sweet so this was no where near as appealing to me as the Atemoyas.
The texture is neat though. Very creamy almost like cheesecake. It did have a hint of berry flavor. Perhaps these first few fruits were a bit lackluster? Only tried one of the two so far.

Looking good. Would you mind sharing your germination tips & tricks?

Both of these have softened so we opened one up tonight. Overall it was very good and the seeds were noticeably larger than Gefner seeds. Is this a common trait of Lisa? Not very many seeds either considering the size of the fruit. We will wind up planting the seeds in the spring and see what kind of results we have.
The single light brown seed is from our Ilama. Just for comparison.
Thanks to all of you that have viewed or commented on this thread.

Lisa atemoya x Ilama sounds like a really cool cross, I'd buy some of the seeds if you have extra and it's not too much effort.

Edit: Found some interesting info either way:

"Hybrids that are one-half A. diversifolia usually are not healthy in our field and have never fruited here... A. squamosa x A. diversifolia germinated by the hundreds and then all died at the height of two inches." They do mention some diversifolia hybrids exist

Well that's not encouraging news

Edit: My wife just told me that Har has mentioned this to her in the past

Coconut cream, fruit punch and probably Carrie. Not a fan of the citrus flavored ones really. We like the classic, coconut and spicy.
I am a big fan of fruit punch which I make no secret. Some of the connoisseurs say it averaged but to me it's Fruit Dillylicious. Can't wait to make a jug of juice with it :) [/url

Happy Holidays

It's very good. Large fruit, plenty of flesh. Delicious.

They will smell very good, perfumy, when ready.  And will be soft enough to spoon.

Thank you. We’ll give them a few days. One has practically split in half on its own already.

Our fruit have split quite a bit more just from sitting on the kitchen counter all day. So we are supposed to let the exposed white flesh form a skin and continue to wait for the fruit to soften before we can consume? We are new to eating Ilama so help would be appreciated. We don't want these to go to waste.

Rob,
I am curious about that pineapple annona.. Did you buy it grafted or was it a seedling? Is it worth growing in your opinion?

Finally got the first 2 fruits from our Lisa atemoya. They are almost 1lb each and have decent symmetry. We used Ilama pollen to hand pollinate the Lisa flowers. Can't wait to finally taste them and plant these seeds!

Update:

Here is round 2. We let them split and fall off the tree this time. Got 2 so far and both are a little over 1lb each. Will post more pics once they (hopefully) ripen. How do these look to you guys?

Our soursop had some leaves turn brown and fall off but overall it's still ok
