I have a few scions of a variety of Acerola I like I got on my travels.  I figured I'd try to root 2 and graft 2 to a Florida Sweet.  Anyone have any tips of type of graft?  Does Acerola root easily?  Hormone help?

I also have one scion of the Peanut Butter Fruit that has green smooth leaves.  Any tips on rooting?  I could also graft part of it, but my larger Peanut Butter Fruit is the fuzzy leaved species.  Do they graft successfully?

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Another Paw Paw Variety Question
« on: February 10, 2016, 02:05:55 AM »
So another which Paw Paw Variety to get question.  I had one in a pot, but likely left it to long to transplant it well (years).  Anyway the choice at the nursery is Rappahannock,Prolific, Overleese, Susquehanna, and Shenandoah.  At some point I will want a multigrafted tree, but would like a good "base" tree.  Don't know my Paw Paws that well.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Canistel Cold Hardiness.
« on: December 08, 2015, 05:19:32 PM »
So a year or two ago I got some Canistel seeds from someone.  I didn't really take care of them because I didn't expect them to survive.   I kind of left them outside under a Redwood and forgot about it.  After a cold spell that killed a lot of Dragon Fruit I was kind of amazed the one that had looked the best was untouched.  I started taking care of it better and it looks OK.  I ended up getting a larger seedling and while it grows slower then Lucuma, Green Sapote, or P. hypoglauca for me it does grow.  I saw the tree at the Fullerton Arboretum and while it's grafted on something it fruits at a fairly small size.

So basically, if I'm going to try to really zone push Canistel in a pot what variety should I try?  Are any varieties more cold hardy then others?

« on: August 27, 2015, 12:18:24 AM »
Just curious, but does anyone know the species of this fig tree in the pictures?

http://english.vietnamnet.vn/fms/vietnam-in-photos/109616/photos--hai-phong-ancient-fig-trees-in-ripe-fruit-season.html

It doesn't appear to be the "Vietnamese Fig" some people posted pictures of in forums from SoCal nurseries or the tree in Santa Barbara.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Any bug spray safe for Lychee leaves?
« on: August 14, 2015, 05:56:37 PM »
Basically some of my Lychee air layers sometimes have new growth that curls and falls off.   I'm pretty sure this is pest based.  Is there any spray I can use that won't damage the existing leaves?  I tried neem oil and it did help, but then it burned the existing leaves.
